Forge Bass Amps?

OK. It was in a closed NAMM sound booth. I'd say the room was about 10'x15'? or 12' by 18'? We heard the big powered cab with the 18" and the next smaller one with the 15", both driven off their tube head, which we asked to have set 'flat'. It was a typical bolt-on 5 string bass - like a Lakland, but I don't think that was it. The overall feeling I got from the sound was as if I was in a control room, listening to the playback of my just-recorded bass track, through huge active playback monitors. Tremendous definition, from top to bottom, with outrageous power behind each note. But at the same time, total clarity. The kind of sound I formerly only heard in a studio playback setting. It also felt different playing the notes on the bass - each one seemed to jump out from my fingers.

Very impressive. But how will it sound in a band setting? With my bass? In a typical room? When compared to other rigs? All questions to be answered when Tom does his full reviews. But we did leave that booth quite 'stimulated' by what we heard. Hence, the award.

Thanks man! You are fluent with descriptive words.

I eagerly await Tom's full-on review.

The Forge preamp is not necessary to run the Forge 4108 and 2105 cabinets. Other preamps can be used. The issue is other preamps don't have the EQ range the Forge preamp has, plus tubes, that allow the cabs to achieve their full-range potential, sub to high freqs. It's like buying a Ferarri, then running it with only half the gears on the stick.

Didn't care at all for that dude's demo at the top of the vid, but that could have been the camera sound and not him. I've been dying to try one out, but there aren't any around here. I'd like Bill FM, Greenboy, and/or Alex C to comment on the speaker arrays they use. Looks like the lows and highs are arranged well, but depending on where they're crossed over, those mid speakers look like they might be a bit close for comfort.

That was a TERRIBLE demo at the beginning. Thin, weak, brittle top end, virtually non-existent low end (even on the B for God's sake!) Not the image I would want my potential customers to come away with.

I refuse to believe that is an accurate representation of the amp at the beginning.

I was looking these guys up but the main company XP Audio only lists Motion Sound, Bolt and Morpheus. No Forge?! Website is dead too. Link Removed

Bad marketing? I know they self distributed. Economy? I may have to send off an email.

I knew that would happen to them - too big and heavy - when the trend is now micro heads and neo speakers in light cabs.

+1

I notice that many bass demos have the players going with ultra-nasally, solo tones lacking anything under 60 hz that sound like garbage, even with higher end equipment. That's what I love about Ed Friedland's demos. He actually showcases tones from equipment that are usable in the real world.

In case anyone forgot what their ads looked like:

now as far as marketing I can immediately see 2 fatal errors.

1. As we all know, there are a finite number of bras in the world, once they are all blown off, there will be no need for subsequent Forge amps.

2. Anyone who would actually believe the ad, does not have the sort of money lying around that these amps were selling for.

Marketing 101: Be sure there is a demand for your product. They chose the wrong time to come out with the bass equivalent of the McMansion.

people looking for cabs with mid drivers are not looking for a big heavy cab. they're looking for little or medium cabs. they'll take a big cab if it doesn't weigh too much, but big + heavy is a deal killer to those looking for that kind of tone.
