About 10 years ago, there was a case local to me, where a 15-year-old girl on a scooter killed a toddler in a bicycle trailer. IIRC, it was on a supermarket parking lot, the girl was chatting with a friend and didn't look where she was going, running over the bike trailer, mother of the child still on the bike.
The mother forgave her. They hugged at the funeral.
This has stuck with me ever since.
