Bottas will be a force wherever he goes... but he won't shine as brightly anywhere else as no other car runs as strong as the Mercedes.

On a side note, I bet Christian would take Bottas over Checo right now if he could. Can you imagine the knowledge Bottas could bring to Red Bull???

Yes, as previously mentioned in this thread, I'd love to see Bottas remain at Mercedes. Bottas is a far greater driver than Russell and doesn't bring all the headaches of grooming a younger driver. I get how Russell is cheaper... but especially with shaking down the all-new '22 car, I would think having a familiar driver in the cockpit to relay info to the team he's already friendly with would be valuable.

But alas, Toto never returns my calls...

Might be me being a Brit but after not being into F1 since the 70s, the refreshing change on multiple levels of Hamilton, plus the Netflix series got me checking results and watching highlights.

I won't pay to watch on pay channels as I do for football but if was on free TV I'd be right there.

Yep, hes still gotta be odds on favourite. Hes trod that path 7 times before.

But...hes not omnipotent. Max has proven to the world that Lewis still puts his trouser on one leg at a time like everyone else.

Max has also reminded us that Lewis doesn't handle pressure so well when hes the one on the receiving end. Nico, who was a tidy driver but not in Lewis' class, exploited that ruthlessly. Max doesn't have that same close proximity and all pervading presence that Nico had as Lewis' team mate, but hes making up for that with simple, good old fashioned consistency of pressure on the track.

And Max doesn't get involved in psychological word games - and quite firmly shot Lewis down with a brilliant retort the one time lewis tried that this season - which is depriving Lewis of one of the favourite off-track weapons in his armoury.

As a pair they're closely matched, but I think the biggest factor might be that Lewis wrote off one of Max's engines, and Max is inevitably going to have to take a penalty when he goes to a 4th unit. If that comes at an inopportune time for Red Bull that could be disastrous.

So id say the odds are still in Lewis' favour, but definitely not as firmly as any time in the last 5 years.

Zandvoort is okay for nostalgia, but today's cars are simply too large for that track. Not enough passing = a boring race. Although the banks and twists are probably fun for the drivers.

Exceptional finish by Gasly. And nice runs by the Alpines and Ferraris.

Onward to Monza... a high-speed circuit which will suit the Mercedes team.

And then to Socci which is a parking lot... oooph.

I see both Alonso and Aston Martin have scotched any rumours of talks between them.

Lawrence Stroll was seen at dinner with Flavio Briatore, whomis Alonso's manager, and that it what started the rumours. However, Stroll says Briatore is a personal friend and that have gone out for meals on may occasions over the years, and this was no different.

I guess we have to take them at their word. Nevertheless, the history of F1 is littered with such denials that later turned put to be true.

Interestingly, it'll now also suit Red Bull. The new set up of their power unit gives them, its reckoned, more grunt than even Mercedes, which is great news ona power circuit.

Add to that their new low drag rear wing configuration, but with the inherent ability to maintain more downforce from their high-rake chassis design, means the chassis is also quick on the straights and grippy in the corners.

Indeed, with their shorter wheelbase they're also more adept on the twisty circuits than Mercedes, and there are very few tracks Red Bull's their current car is ill suited to.

It'll be interesting to see if Max can eke out his engine to avoid a penalty, or at least take the penalty at a time then the damage is minimised as that seems more likely to kneecap him than anything Mercedes seem able to do at the moment.
