Formula 1/F1/Formula One

Half points, so by my reckoning that puts Verstappen on 199.5 and Hamilton on 202.5 points. Tight as a gnats chuff.

Bad luck for the fans, but the FIA can't manage the weather. On the plus side, Russell takes home 9 points, which is great news for him and Williams.

Where will Russell be next year? Toto claims that they have decided, but won't reveal the answer just yet.

I don't like that half-points situation. If the stewards felt like they could start the race, full points should be awarded. I'm not a Red Bull or Verstappen fan, but that's a slap to their faces.

So that's an interesting rule - three laps behind the safety car and call it a race with half points. As excited as I was for Russell to qualify P2 yesterday, how anti climactic is it that his first podium and the first podium for Williams in how many years is in this fashion?

I see Lewis is moaning about it. Hardly surprising as Max has almost caught him in the championship again.

Hes moaing about how the fans should be refunded. Well, I'm not sure what the wanted the FIA to do about the weather, and the track is not available to run the race on Monday, so what the alternative? Lewis saved millions on his private jet VAT dodge, so maybe he could use some of that money to refund the fans himself?

I recorded the race and, while I usually extend the recording time by an hour or so in case of delays or red flags, I still didn't get to see those two exciting, action packed race laps. Or so I've read. Why the powers that be didn't reschedule the race for one of the open weeks or for the possible covid cancellations that may yet occur escapes me.

No, that wasn't a race... no way.

With 75,000 dedicated fans present in the mud, enduring the horrible weather... and with it being such a historical track, I suppose the officials felt like they needed to "get it in."

Note -- the weather forecast for tomorrow is 70-80% rain. I don't know if it would have been as intense as Sunday's precipitation, but that may have weighed in on the decision as well.

With the changes to the F1 schedule due to Covid, could this race have been rescheduled for the fall? Maybe... but I don't know what the weather's like in that part of the world or what else Spa might have scheduled later this year. I believe the high number of spectators present weighed in on the stewards' decision.

But if this were 2020 and the series was at one of the tracks that still barred fans from attending, would they have made the same decision to call it after two parade laps and award half-points? I doubt it.

All in all, an extremely poor outcome. And come December, if Max loses the title by those half-points he missed out on today, folks will never forget this day.

Boo.

wow, some race huh, personally I would not call it that but then again I dont run the FIA, there playground, there rules.

The track is not available on Monday, so they couldn't defer the race by a day. A race from another class is being held today, althoughnif the weather is dire that may well not go ahead either.

As unsatisfying as it is for the fans, no one seems to have come up with a viable alternative.

I personally don't see what else the FIA could have done, and while i blame them for many things the weather is not one of them.

I don't begrudge Max the points, and wont bemoan him if he wins the championship my 3 points or less - after all, Lewis took points too, and if he wanted to go home with more points than Max it was to to him to have qualified ahead.

And let us not forget the only reason he isn't 25 points further up the road already is because Lewis flicked him off. Many things affect the outcome beyond simple racing.

IMHO they need to have the track available for days after the event. ive seen NASCAR Run a Sunday race that got rained out on Tuesday. I always take an extra day off when I go to a race just incase rain pushes it to Monday. Pretty common in nascar for the rain delayed races get pushed. ive had to come back on Monday for indycar races too that got rained out.

If they can't run the race, no points should be awarded. Half points for what? qualifying? Pretty lame if you ask me.

If I was a fan and spent all the time and money to go the grand prix, I would be ticked. Imagine traveling internationally, huge flight costs, covid regulations and quarantine rules, then the cost of hotels, the race etc. Taking time off work. All so you can sit in the rain all day and watch a few pace laps? Not cool if you ask me.

I had always wanted to go to a grand prix. Knowing I could spend a fortune and not see a race just really made this to where I would never go to one. Even the local one here in Austin, TX (by local I mean in my country), I wouldn't take the chances of it not happening. Too much to invest to not see a race.

The FIA should schedule these tracks to have rain days built into the schedule

If it is named Spa because of the rain?....I guess the dice are always rolled!

Hopefully, Mick's legacy will soon turn into more than just him hopping in his dad's old rides. So far, that's been his lion's share of excitement on F1 weekends.

Btw, here's a little info on the documentary on Michael showing up on Netflix in a few weeks...

Watch Netflix's Michael Schumacher Documentary Trailer Here

The best part of the "race" was the filler piece about Mick Shumacher getting to drive the Jordan that was Michael's first F1 ride.

I don't think that people are as upset about the race not being moved as much as two laps behind the safety car being called a race. They shouldn't have called it a race. They shouldn't have declared a winner, and they shouldn't have given points out. We can't control the weather, and sometimes things get cancelled, but to award points for yesterday is a farce of the highest level. It makes 2005 Indy seem like the greatest spectacle ever.

For an organization like F1 you would think someone would have thought a weather contingencey day would be a prudent consideration, they could have easily reserved monday as well. This is done in other racing series as a matter of course, seems a bit short sighted on the FIA's part

But there is another race next weekend, and everything has to be packed up and moved. A Monday race just wasn't feasible from a logistics standpoint.

I'd be OK if they just would have cancelled the race. Things out of your control happen. But to call what happened a race is unforgivable.

the Netherlands is a hop skip and a jump from Belgium, North American race teams do this on occasion and its probably further down the road to there next race. A monday race given track availability was totally feasible. Me thinks the FIA may be a bit of a stick in the mud , to rigid to change. Your right, they should have cancelled or at least tried to re schedule although its my understanding it rains alot around there.. so theres that

This is the worst take that I've heard, yet.

Yes I replied to this post once already, but this is such a terrible take that it deserves it's own reply.

Thats rather disingenuous. Just because you disagree does not make it ok to be rude or dismissive.

The point is valid, and dismissing with tart remarks it does not change that.

You can be that if Lewis had actually increased his lead in the championship he wouldn't have been complaining of the situatuon. He never complains when the situation favours himself.
