OC is STILL known for it's varying levels of debauchery. Nice to know you were on of the many "Junebugs" able to desecrate our place we call home. Andre has made it clear that he was not asking for anything more than a chance to contact his brother, but I believe that all of us would like to make sure that the meeting does take place. We do not know Andre or Maurice's financial status, but if they cannot afford the trip maybe you could open up the account on paypal to collect enough to make the reunion happen.

While it would be nice to see the pics, the real importance is knowing it happened. I think most of us respect Andre's desire to maintain his privacy. I hate to speak for others, but I am sure we trust your integrity enough to contribute to this wonderful cause that you set in motion.

Not to be a party-pooper, but I have to reiterate that any form of charity/donation collection or talk of such cannot be done within the TalkBass forums or through PM/TalkBass email, so any talk of this will have to be done completely off-site.

Hey everyone, I have a little time right now to post a proper update on everything, although I'm still at work.

So Art came and jammed last night with the guitar player here, and then after close, I realized I can plug two basses into my amp at once so we jammed for maybe like 2 or 3hours straight. For a guy who says he has a lot of rust to shake off, he sure has some killer chops. I wished that I had gotten some pictures of that and some sound recordings. He didn't leave till almost 4am, and around 2 I took a break to finish making my collage coffee table (hot chicks, beer, and some other pictures) and he just kept playing, the dude just looked seriously happy. I ending up kicking him out, (;)), so me and my friend Ian could crash on chairs in the dining room so I could open the place by 10am.

Also, Art loves the SX. While I've had my own problems with them, he really did get a nice bass, although he's been tweaking it since he got it. It plays like butter with a nice low action. According to him, my bass is nearly unplayable, the action is so high and I should switch to upright. :p From the look of him though, he needs to get on a stage and get playing again.

What we're trying to do is set up an open mic night here, and he'll be down here every Friday. He lives 2 blocks away from the restaurant. If anyone wants to come down here on a Friday night the restaurant is called Tuttoriso. Its on Staten Island, a 4 minute walk from the ferry (you can literally see it when you walk outside the terminal) The address is 36 Richmond Terrace and when you're street level you go right. Its a yellow awning. If you hit a hot dog stand, you've gone too far. If you've hit the police precinct, you've gone more than a block too far. The website is tuttorisocafe.com, for those interested in eats, its all organic food, and we've got gluten free food as well (for those with celiacs disease, although a lot of people with autism come in as well)

As for TBers asking about the reunion, your guess as to when its happening is as good as mine. I'll ask Art when I see him tomorrow if he minds, and then I'll call Andre and ask if he minds the local TBers coming down.

This is just great.. Can you imagine what this has done to restore the Porter brothers' faith in people?


I've got a buddy who lives on Staten Island.. a Gutarist named Noel.. he's an older guy though.. (Than GE anyway.. and yeah I know it's big... ) I am from the Bronx.... been down in the DC area for almost 10 years now.. but I used to play in a dead band based in S.I. & Brooklyn... near Bath Ave.

Hey, man, GE Dude! We used to live at 36 Hamiliton Avenue Saint George, Staten Island back around 1967! I went to Curtis High School my last year. From Oakland California to Staten Island in 1967! I think Tuttoriso Cafe is near 36 Hamilton Avenue. USED to be an Apartment there and that is where we lived. Used to go walking all over Saint George. I remember Styvestant Place. Used to be an olde Itallian don't recall the name but he had a restaruant on Styvestant. MANY years ago, man! Many years! Someday I'd like to visit there again! Hamilton Avenue used to be kind of steep to walk up. I am 50 miles north of Anchorage now Palmer, Alaska, Learning bass guitar! Yeah! Later Crazy Jay Yeah 13! Name of the Apartments are Alexander Hamilton Apartments. Itallians name is/was Joe , he owned Joes Deli back around 1967. It was on Styvestant Place if I recall rightly.

Not sure if this is what you meant or not, but if Art can use a little extra cash, maybe the restaurant would consider making those Friday jams a paid gig for him. Let him be the host of open mic night if he's into it. He'd have an audience, he'd be playing regularly, he'd get a little extra dinero. He could be the Rickey Minor of the Tuttoriso Cafe! :D Who knows, maybe some big time musician who eats a gluten free diet will happen to see Art and the possibilities are endless :)
