When it comes to war movies, the best to me are of the 'anti' variety. King of Hearts is right up there. Hard to beat the experience of reading Catch-22 though...

Francis Ford Coppola v. Stanley Kubrick

Both great films. I'd generally give the nod to Kubrick over Coppola save for the stunning masterpiece known as Apocalypse Now.
I've seen both of these movies dozens of times and I never tire of them.

With so many Kubrick fans in this thread you are a little quick to assume that no one else here has seen it. I certainly have, and its a great film.
This is the book that, when read to our class by my high school History teacher, reignited my love for reading.
The book is great, Id say a must-read.

In all honesty, though they are both great movies and I do consider Apocalypse the better movie by my favorite director, gosh darndit I find FMJ to be a bit more enjoyable to watch.

It's génial and not genial.
I could also very well use the name "génie". Ie: Deux réalisateurs de génie, le génie de ces deux réalisteurs, etc.
Now if you want to argue wether they were "géniaux" or not, that's a different story.

I love both movies, kind of hate picking one, but for sake of discussion, I'd take Full Metal to the desert island with me for the basic training first half of the movie alone. Priceless.
