Hi everyone -

I wanted to let you all know that there are a series of events with Francois Rabbath in Minneapolis/St. Paul in April. Here are the details:

Thursday, April 12 5:00pm – 7:30pm Masterclass at the University of Minnesota Room 280, School of Music (Ferguson Hall)

Friday, April 13 2:00pm – 4:00pm Masterclass at McNally Smith College of Music Room 70

Saturday, April 14 8:00pm Concert Antonello Hall, MacPhail Center for Music (tickets will be available soon through MacPhail)

Sunday, April 15 11:00am – 12:30pm Public Clinic at McNally Smith College of Music Auditorium

Sunday, April 15 1:00 - 2:00 pm Meet & Greet Reception at McNally Smith College of Music SoundBite Café

All classes are free of charge. McNally Smith College of Music is a secure campus. For McNally Smith College of Music events, folks should email [email protected] in order to be placed on the list to get past the security desk.

Why is this under Orchestral? Because the Maestro is the single most influential teacher in the second half of the twentieth century. Mr. Rabbath's most "controversial" techniques have become standard practice in the Orchestral world, from the endpin to the pivot...

His impact is undeniable. Being a naysayer at this point is a tiresome exercise in futility.:atoz:

I would have loved to have heard him play his Bernadel...
I have seen him play an old Italian...in Venice... I think it was Dragonettis bass... he didn't care for it, but damn that bass sounded awesome...
I'll never forget the expression on his face when he played a few notes on that thing....

Yesterday evening's masterclass at the U of M was terrific! I played the exposition of the first movement of the Vanhal Concerto for him. Although after I played it for him he didn't comment on my piece at all, he just talked about the angle of the bass and the kind of endpin that he uses, and how he wanted me to try it. It's a neat idea, and I can definitely see some advantages to playing that way. I might buy a second endpin and have it bent so that I can try it out before drilling a hole into the bottom of my bass.
He's giving a recital tomorrow night. I can't wait to hear him play again!

His recital Saturday night was absolutely superb. I'm so glad that I was able to meet him and hear him perform. I've been inspired once again.
Russell, I probably saw you there. Did you happen to see a 17 year old male with golden brown hair wearing a collared and striped t-shirt with dark blue jeans? If you did, that was me! :)

I did!

I was the 6 ft middle aged guy with a red Ohio State shirt, black jacket and glasses on. Sitting in the middle of the 4 th row.
