Should I buy one? TBers who have one, please tell me more about it.....not much written about it and your info and advice would help me decide.....thanks
I have one and love it!! So versatile. From barely there to very rich deep od. Definitely a reset island pedal for me. A little pricey but an exceptional pedal. Another one worth checking out for sure!!!
to give you an idea of what it is, it's based on a tube screamer, but with treble & bass controls and an internal charge pump running at +&- 15V.
thanks JohnK.....yes, tube screamer......that's what I've been hearing about it and I never really liked the TS on guitar but never tried it on bass.....maybe it's not what I'm looking for but one never knows till one has tried it but darned expensive just to try it for 15 minutes and realize it's not what you want though......oh well, that's life...lol
IMO, a tube screamer tuned for a bass with a T&B tonestack running at 30V makes for a very nice bass od.
Amazing Pedal, very HIFI sounding if you raise the treble and bass but if you lower the treble you can get Ampeg, even super fat James Jamerson sounds. Sounds great with slap, very modern and cool and retains all + low end.
I think it is unfair to describe it as a tube screamer variant, as it doesn't sound like what most people expect a tubscreamer sounds like. It may be based on the circuit, but that doesn't make it sound like one. JohnK there is definitely some bass frequencies that don't distort at all, which would require a very significant mod to a TS circuit. By the way csn you explain how this is done? To the OP, I think the description on the FTT site is accurate - you can achieved an overdrive which sounds distorted when the bass is heard by itself, but doesn't sound dirty in a full band mix. This is mostly how I run mine. I think the lack of distortion of loe frequencies is significant in how this works.
I've had one for a couple of months...great piece of kit Highly reccomend I hear the 'Black Vehicle' is awesome as well. Surprised they don't get more hype here...is it $ ?
Must be, I've been looking at them for a little while now, I'm close to pulling the trigger, just debating whether to drop that much on an OD or to buy the BB Preamp.. I'm after a light OD thats transparent and will push the front end of my amp a little. The delay looks killer as well..
I bet both the Xotic BB Pre and the FTT Bass Blaster share a very similar dual op-amp topology. I haven't seen a schematic for the Bass Blaster, but if people say it's based off the TS then it's gonna have some similarities to the BB Pre. However, you could say a cement truck and Ferrari share some topology: they have wheels, a chassis, a motor, a body... Okay, that's pushing it, so bringing it in a wee bit closer... A base model 1966 Mini vs a 1966 Mini Cooper; A base model '60s Fiat 500 vs an Abarth 500... I know which two of the four cars noted above I'd want to drive, and they aren't the base models. Just 'cause the Blaster shares some similarities to a TS-808 doesn't mean it's going to lose bass and have a mid-hump like the Ibby. If DirtyDuke and JohnK like it, that's good enough for me.
Living in NZ I don't get to try a heap of pedals but if there is a 'better' Bass Overdrive than the FTT BB I'd like to know what it is.
Too late. I see you’ve already ordered. So I’ll just share this for possible future reference based on what you said you were looking for earlier. It’s s Rangemaster type boost circuit with an EQ stage and a compressor. They market as a compressor/sustainer. But it does a whole lot more than that.
