Fretless 5 string bass

Hey!

I want to buy a new (or used) 5 string fretless bass but I'm not sure which onea are really good. My budget is around 1,000. I want something punchy and warm at the same time.

One of my friends sugested a Tobias Growler and other said the neck was comfortable (I love Peavey necks, they are thin!).

Any suggestions/ideas as of what I should get are appreciated.

I own a SR505 and a warwick Corvette (passive), both fretted. The warwick is pretty punchy and warm, wheras the Ibanez has more of a treble emphasis. Never played a peavey accelerator, but the Peaveys I have played were simmilar to the warwick, but more mid-focused and less 'open' sounding, probably due to the humbucking pups. Never played a Tobias, so I can't comment there.

You left off EBMM and G&L. Both make awesome 5 string fretless basses under $1k used.

I LOVE my fretless Corvette Std. Granted it's a 4 instead of a 5 but the tone won't change from the added string. It's strung up with chrome flats and has plenty of punch and warmth throughout the freq range. Just IMHO of course and YMMV. Best of luck in choosing!

I'll add - my Carvin LB70 with the P-electronics has so much adjustment I can really pull any sound I want out of it. Just a matter of tweaking.
They make a 5-string version for ~$1300 new and next to nothing used

I have a Carvin 5 string fretless that has tone and mwah to die for...it has a koa body and koa/maple 5 piece neck with ebony finger board. I bought it used in mint condition for around $550 about 10 years ago. Strung with D'addario rounds (don't remember exactly the P/N of the strings .

None of the above. Get a G&L L2500 fretless. Too bad I just sold one last week on TalkBass. You want punchy and total tone monster you'll love them. Great quality. Can't go wrong.
