Fretless five competition: Mad scientist edition

Lab Journal #42: It's alive! IT'S ALIVE!!!!
finally got to a computer long enough to post up my presentation. Here are a few pics I took to get a good view of the bass.

Pretty basses are great but the proof is in the sound and playability. This is a quick demo video recorded on wed. The sound is from a high quality camera with a good condenser mic attached. The sound you hear is strictly the amp in the room with no direct line of any type. This was all recorded in one take, just making stuff up. There is one sample of the bridge pickup only, one of the neck pickup only and a sample with both pickups together. The video was recorded in an apartment where volume is limited so due to the closeness of the camera you can hear an inordinate amount of string noise that doesnt come through the amp. My amp is an Alembic F-1X preamp, a QSC plx 1202 power amp and and Epifani UL 310 series 2. The string are a nearly new set of D'addario XL roundwounds. Excuse me if I look extremely relaxed, these things tend to happen from time to time.

(Note my Mad Scientist hair.) :D

I hope to post some high quality sound clips soon but this was a great way to get a look at the bass in 3 dimensions and see how it sits on the player.

I would like to thank you guys for staying with me through this build. It's been a fun process to document things from beginning to end and no matter who ends up getting the votes we have a group of fantastic basses in the lineup. Time to shut down the experiment and lock down the lab but I shall return with more build threads in the future.

Wow, great work. The fit and finish are impeccable. The back/neck is groovy and all, but what I find most attractive is the fingerboard - love it! Sounds great through that amp, too, nice growl without too much mwahh.

Congratulations on a superb build. Lots to learn from this one...

I am not sure how to get to the sound at your photobucket post.. It wants me to log into facebook is that correct?
wow I have been walking in fog ever since your first post on this build.. You Sir are surely taking things to a new level!
Thanks

Listening to you play I have a feeling that you could make lumpy rock and some blades of grass sound good...you got some pretty serious skills! But Im sure that bass doesnt hurt either :) And I serioiusly dig that fingerboard.

Yeah... what he said!
That thing's a sex machine... the bass isn't too bad either :hiding:

Good work, keep it up!

wow.. so... cool... i love the documentation of the whole process. was so worth going through this thread. The woodworking skills are fantastic. the whole wave design of the back is stunning. glad to hear you made it through the tornadoes, you got some serious bass-building to get back to.. kick-a$$..
