Agreed. And I would think that this kind of construction might not be possible with a material that was not as strong as that Curbow Rockwood.
I can believe that. It's a shame they didn't last very long after Greg passed away. Such brilliant designs and Rockwood has some very neat advantages and characteristics. Maybe some day I can get Doug to build me something similar.

That bass, above, was 100% built by Doug, and it's right up there among the very best-built of the basses I own. In truth, it eclipses my Greg Curbow-era Pete 5. I think that Doug has his own shop going now, though he's been building mostly skinny-string models.

Yeah, a friend of mine has/had some Greg era Curbows and some Doug era Curbows. I wouldn't hesitate to own either! Maybe I can put that in the GAS queue for next year. Hmmmmmmmm, tasty! I really enjoyed how thin the necks were, as well as a very durable fingerboard material and very stable in my unfriendly climate changes.
