Fretless Precision?

Hi folks,

Please I'd be glad to know who these days make fretless Precision basses ? I mean real fretless, not unfretted.
I pointed on the USA Lakland Glaub and the Fender Tony Franklin signature bass, but that's about all I found.

Many thanks,
Jay

You could order a G&L SB-2 fretless.

For mine, I bought a new MIM fretless Jazz neck on eBay, and added it to a new MIM P-bass body with Am. Ser. pickup. Buying the parts separately made it pretty expensive for an MIM Fender, but it's a great bass.

The Fender fretless Tony Franklin Precision looks Killer. J bridge pickup (Fender Model J clone I think), unlined ebony fretboard, hipshot extended tuner, laquer finish (on neck). This one can do the classic p-bass fretless and Jaco!

Fender Japan currently makes fretless Precisions, but I think they only make them with Maple fingerboards these days.

Check this one out:

AllParts also sells an aftermarket P neck with unlined Ebony fingerboard (lined also).

Fretless Maple P... yummy. I like the metal control plate too, adds a nice touch...

Out of curiosity - what in your opinion is wrong with an "unfretted" bass? Is it just the fret lines?

Yep, I guess I meant "defretted". :)
I may be wrong, but a fretless fingerboard is one "mass" of wood, while a defretted one is 20, 21... pieces of wood side by side.
And yes, I prefer unlined fretboards.
Cheers
Jay
