Fretless Stingrays

I've come back to the Stingray 5 as my go-to active platform, and I find the SR5 fretless delivers the goods. Had a fretless USA Sterling 5, only one I've ever seen, and while I loved how it played and I think the voicing works well for fretless, when I found my black 1995 SR5, that was that.

Looks stunning, good on you.

I passed on a Fretless Stingray 5 in 1995 still an instrument I think about

Did manage to buy a 2EQ 4 string last year after 3 years of looking.

An Ibanez is not ever going to be on the level of a Music Man. If you pull the frets out of a Music Man, there is a special ring of Hell for you. An Ibanez? No one cares what you do to it.

Can you really blame someone for wanting to do this when EBMM is not committed to providing us with fretless models? It's been over 4 years since we last could order one.

I reluctantly have a lined fretless SR5 for sale in the Talkbass ads. Bought it here on talk bass about 6 years ago and have finally realized that I will never be a decent fretless player.
My fretted SR5, however, is going nowhere.

Funny, my sucky playing was never a disincentive to ownership. You’ll have no problem moving it though!

Though I'd never yank the frets out of a USA SR, I'll swap the neck on a Japanese one! It's kind of a bummer that you can't get a regular fretless 'Ray anymore. I hope that SBMM re-releases them. I saw Juliaplaysgroove got a custom one, which is awesome!

Here are my fretless rays-

MIJ EBMM Stingray EX w/ Status Neck-

EBMM Stingray Special BFR Fretless-

I’d like Musicman to start making fretless basses again.

I have been on the hunt for a 4 string fretless Stingray for about a year now and either I miss them, they sell too quickly, too expensive, or a 5 string. I've been on here, Reverb, straight-up Google searches, and there's been very minimal available.

Are these basses that sought after? Or are they not sought after? I mean, I look at myself wanting one, but I'm usually the odd guy who veers toward the not-so-popular stuff.

I can't imagine that they are produced at the same quantity as the fretted Stingrays either...so the numbers are 'limited.'

Perhaps I'm just lame and not hip anymore (not that I really ever was!). But I don't know...
Is there ANY option to buy a new Unlined Fretless Stingray 5 neck anywhere in the world?
