Fretless Stingrays

For a “custom design experience”, they sure are limited in their choice of finishes. Not even a gloss white? You couldn’t pay me to take a satin finish. One thing I also noticed is now that EB has committed to the use of roasted maple necks, they will not offer matching headstock on anything but an opaque finish, because they can’t get the color to match. They also no longer offer transparent finishes, only translucent. A transparent finish StingRay with a matching headstock is my favorite, and I can’t order it, let alone in a color I’d actually like. My next two choices would be gloss white or gloss black, and only one of those is offered, like I’m buying a 1908 Ford Model T, and despite the fact that Chandler makes all their pickguards, I can’t even order a nice black pearl one from the factory? How is this “custom”?

I suppose we’re meant to be thankful that EBMM is finally offering the rabble any choices, at all. For decades, they have refused to produce custom orders for anyone who isn’t a celebrity.

It does seem like a bit of a missed opportunity. I really had hoped to order a dark green (a la Sherwood) Stingray but the colour options are rather limited. Some of the more classic colours have been ignored in favour of pretty niche burst options.

At some point I think it would be great if you told us what you really think about the subject!!!

Is it really necessary for me to point out they also have a very appealing MusicMan Sabre in stock?

If you're checking out two basses, the cost of petrol / parking per instrument is halved.

Which one? The '83 is nice but the '88 is really nice - check out the figured neck!

The Trans Red '02 SR4 looks tasty and the 'rare-bird' EX might be tempting but for the aftermarket preamp. But the '79 looks very nice, if not a bit steep. All in all a nice gaggle of MM all there in one place - even the Bongos might be worth a spin. I feel a nice day out coming on...

And the petrol / parking for the fretless is now 1/6 what it was when this conundrum began - you can't loose.
