FRETNATION.COM is UP formerly BASS STRINGS ONLINE

I was wandering around the site and just now posted a thread asking for opinions regarding differences between D'Addario XL Nickels and Pure Blues. If you've ever played the XLs you care to share?

I'm more curious about tension and tone comparisons than anything else.

I played XL170’s exclusively for about 16 years on my modulus 5. They were always available, reasonably priced, and sounded good with that instrument. With similar gauges, the XL’s feel a little more taut under the fingers and give a little more presence in the 1-2k range; the PB’s sound a bit deeper, and the treble range seems to extend higher, but without being peaky or ganky. I like both for different reasons. The feel of the PB outer wrap is a little smoother.

Just because it's not added to the site yet doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't have it. Message or email Jason and I'm sure he'll get you taken care of.

I've already ordered a few things not on the site .

Got my first order yesterday. Thanks Jason. Never tried these before. I can honestly say that after 35+ years of playing, I may have found my strings.

Just now catching up on this and am stoked on the news! It might be timely as I have one of those awkward "needs"...I'm looking for a single E string from the heavy labella Beatle bass set, the .100 Guage. In my brief searching I didn't see if single strings were going to be available on the new site.

There are singles on there. I haven't finished adding everything. If you dont see what you're looking for please send a message.

SLaPiNFuNK, congrats on your return to business.

Quick question. Do string manufacturers give you a heads-up on what they will be discontinuing so you can plan accordingly? Or do you get caught off-guard like the rest of us?

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.

In the case of Dunlop Heavy Core strings for example, they offered me to buy out their remaining inventory and let me know.

D'Addario Flex Steels it was a surprise to us all, from what I understand it was one of the manufacturers of the core wire that suddenly could not supply it.

In the case of others, I might have found out when I placed an order for them or at the NAMM show.

It really depends on the company.

Just heard the news! :hyper: I wish I'd have caught it a bit earlier as I just bought 2 sets of strings and would have definitely got them from Jason if I would have known! So glad to hear this and I will be buying more strings eventually - from Fret Nation!
