Friend slams band on facebook

I posted a video of our band on my wall because many friends had asked about it and wanted to see it. I thought it was a decent video but who knows. Anyway, my friend (who I hang out with now and again and we have some beers and listen to music) posts "Truthfully.....need a new lead singer".

Is it rude to make posts slamming your friends on their facebook wall or is it just me?

Constructive criticism is a necessary evil in life. However, I think you are correct about his delivery. If he were truly a friend he would have told you privately, not post it on facebook. Look on the bright side, at least he didn't slam you...'Bass player sucks', 'bass player needs to take up drums', etc. Could have been much worse. Bottom line, you should probably edit your post, drop the word 'friend'. Better still, edit your life and drop that person.

IDK about all that. A true friend will tell you when you're embarrassing yourself. Now if he would have come to a show and said it in front of customers, that would be lacking tact.

To some of the less computer-savvy, posting it on your facebook page could be their way of saying it in private. I have a few relatives that like to start conversations with me in pic comments lol.

On to the video. I didn't really like the first song, but that's just me. Fathers Gun wasn't bad, I've heard a lot worse singers, some with major label backing. Did it warrant a comment on facebook? Not really.

But I like friends that are opinionated dicks, so what do I know?

Personally, I figure when you're in a band with other people that there are going to be some songs that you like better than others and maybe some you actually don't care for. The first song gets mixed opinions. My wife doesn't care for it but she loves several of his other tunes that I think he sings quite well.

Normally this friend isn't an opinionated dick though...

If people are not leaving when he sings, he is fine! His voice sounds a bit thin in the recording, maybe it's the recording..... Bass playing is good though! I see the Orange AD200B with a Jazz bass.

Well the recording was quite rough when he got it. Bass was stomping all over everything and levels were not right. He put it through some software or something to clean it up so that was the best we could do.

The Orange AD200B is actually the backline (the next band), not mine :( I was playing through a Peavey VB-2.

Yeah, I must have liked it because I could REALLY hear the bass! LOL! I knew the bass was distorting something.....

Singers all of have their own style and what not going on. If he was singing obviously terrible notes during the songs, then it's an issue. Otherwise, sounds pretty good. The songs are not my cup of tea, but I would leave the bar if I heard them.

Side note, does the Peavey VB-2 exhibit that tube style growl we all strive for? I am sure it does.....how does it compare to an SVT CL or other tube amps?

Well I think the bass sound on the first song is intentional...I was using a bass octaver effect for that song. They had me mic'd and DI and so I'm hoping the FOH sounded better because I noticed on the second video I posted I was a little distorted even on the slow blues number which I'd rather have a smoother tone on.

So wait....you said you would leave the bar if you heard them? I mean, that bad?

As for the Peavey VB-2, I can't say how it compares to an SVT CL or other tube amps because it is the only tube amp I've ever played through but my experience is that you can get growl as well as many other tones from this amp. Lots of other tb'ers have commented on its versatility too.
