Curious as to why you think George with the true funk Professor Bootsy Collins on your list. How could the leader of a band with Bootsy, Maceo, Star child, the Wizard of Woo, many others and it's own funk mythology be considered a hack of funk. I've seen each of these funk legends multiple times with in the year as well as TOP, George Porter, Ohio Players... and though they cross genre lines I feel they all play some nasty funk.
Now I hadn't even been born in the 70s so guess I'll have take the text book definition of Funk, however, I define funky as anything I can make dirty coitus to, or, that forces crowds to do a sexy dance.
