@Ed- Hawker Seahawk, another finely-sculpted British naval craft. On that note(gimme a minute here..):

Actually, Gard, those are BOTH Typhoons- you're thinking of this:
Wait- I take it(partially)back- I can see the bottom one has the thinner wing, but not the dorsal fillet. the forward fuselage looks longer(the wing's leading edge lines up w/the rear of the row of exhaust stacks, as opposed to the middle)but the rear fuselage doesn't look *stretched* to my bad eyes...

Actually, Gard, those are BOTH Typhoons- you're thinking of this:
Ed, check carefully, the top photo is indeed a Typhoon, the bottom photo is a Tempest - longer nose, different wing shape, but otherwise almost an identical aircraft!

Ed, actually the fuselage aft the wing is the same on both designs - the Tempest was a development of the Typhoon! The primary changes were the extension of the engine cowl, the thinner wing - and if you look carefully at the tail itself, you will see they are subtly different, with the Tempest tail fin slightly more "rounded".
The idea was to smooth out the "buffeting" that occurred in the Typhoon at high speeds (approaching 500 mph!!!

I knew all that, the tail's just my first point of reference for Typhoon/Tempest differentiation.
That said, I think the Typhoon could just be my favourite plane ever. But I don't think anything can beat:

Well I was sure the fuselage was extended, but I can't say I ever read where(on the airframe)it was lengthened. I do see the difference in the tails. I knew the Tempest was derived from the Typhoon, and that they were often used against V-1 flying bombs due to their high top speed.
