Died because of the jet age.

Which was a shame, but in the grand scheme of things, I'd (almost) rather have faster, more economical planes than majestic, beautiful pieces of engineering art...

The specific problem, IIRC, w/the Brabazon was the incredibly thick wing(is *high-aspect ratio* the term I'm looking for?)- which could not be adapted to function w/jet engines & higher speeds.

I believe I saw a program about them on the History Channel, maybe about 10 years ago. As I recall, it used ground effect to help give it lift as it flew low. Flying just above the water would keep it invisible to surface-based radar at much closer range than if it were up at normal higher altitude.
