Considering the massive deal everyone makes about how the F22 has supercruise, I still like to remind myself about how the TSR-2 was doing that 40 odd years ago.
What a plane that would have been, had the government not pulled the plug at the last minute.![]()
Wasn't the Lightning supercruise-capable? First prototype of that was mid-1940s, IIRC.
(Saw a few of them in operation when I was a sprog at RAF Waddington, along with the Vulcans that were stationed there).
Not sure about the supercruise, but the first Lightning prototypes were mid 50s.
Vulcans and Lightnings? The sheer amount of awesome coming from Waddy at that time must have been dangerous.
