Funny CL post - Drummer and Bass looking

You should re-write this ad. It's pretty bad. Don't be so detailed and rigid in what you're looking for. Cut in half or more and make your points succinctly. Otherwise, people will think you're crazy folk that are hard to get along with.

That's what I mentioned to the drummer that posted this. I tried to convey the message in a gentle, positive manner. He didn't take it as given and was quite offended.

There are a number of specific things that I find kinda funny, due to you drummer's writing style...

"THE 'insert band name here' is a band for seasoned PEOPLE."
As opposed to what, monkeys?
"We grew up listing to and playing southern rock ... Almond Brothers"
That's just nuts.

"We may be familiar with some songs on your list that I have not mentioned here in this posting."
But he hasn't mentioned any songs in the posting.

"Do not be copycats of the original music. Improvise. Please play it your own style. Do not copy cat the original song."
I feel like he's trying to tell me something. Gee, what could it be?

But if I was a singer, guitarist, keys player, whatever, I would not answer this ad. The whole thing screams "We are a couple of boring old guys who have no interest in learning anything new; we just want to keep doing the same thing we've been doing forever." Then the Nick Mason quote says "if you play with us, you're not actually part of the band, you're merely some 'novelty' adornment. Like costume jewellery. Or truck nuts."

There may be people who are looking to be bit part players in your safe zone, but it doesn't sound like a fun project to me.

Hey @oldrocker, What's missing in your drummer's one-paragraph-manifesto, other than the ability to present a simple thought out of respect for the reader?

How about a performance plan?

You going to just jam? Rehearse forever until you've got it perfect after everyone's burned out? Do shows? Where? How's your experience with playing out? What's your target venue? Target pay?

Personally, I have my own gigging reasons & requirements, but that's me, and some people have different reasons for playing.

Though I've never been with a band that advanced faster through endless rehearsals than through gigging.

And any Craigslist ad that doesn't at least acknowledge and address performance, be it yay or nay, gets ignored by a lot of better players.

I got roped into a situation one time via CL where the guy talked a good game. Said all the right things. But it slowly turned into a never-ending rehearsal. :rollno: It was like being in a dysfunctional relationship, where one of them keeps thinking, "It's going to get better. It's going to get better. It has to get better." But it never gets better.

In short: Fussy.

In long: Both are (improv) no-nonsense professionals based in Port Richey(?), have exact standards (i.e. oldie music (for seniors)), but... PA system is missing, also missing four sets of music plus front (wo)man and looking to expand.

And that's all they wrote.

So, anyone interested, I am curious if my translation holds.
