I don't disagree with anything you're saying, though for the bass player that has no idea how to play even single note patterns on a keyboard, a significant investment of time is needed to be proficient enough...beyond playing one note drones. Too some, a synth pedal is just easier to get synth tones and play an interesting line.
Some, like Kevtop, just want the synth pedal sound rather than a keyboard. However, what BadMutha points out is 100% spot on. Small developer from scratch to reproduce the worlds best synth pedal? For under 200-300 smackers? You're crazy.
Would I pay that much? Probably not. But I've never found a synth pedal that really meets my needs. The G5 was close, but nothing like the Moog Minitaur. I've wasted too much time and money trying to get a good synth sound in bass that I liked. So I probably will not be buying this. Though it sounds awfully intriguing and I'm excited for the synth pedal market to get another option. Besides, it sounds like it's going to be way more flexible and usable than the OG pedal. So as long as it's less money than the vintage, I'm sure many will be happy.
First off. I want to apologize for being a bit of a jerk in my post.
I just take issue with certain specifics that are yet unknown, and in this I am making a multitude of assumptions. One is that the pedal market is one micro market in which cost is hugely inflated, knowing especially that the cost of components is very minimal, and many are assembled in China. I get there is the planning, schematics, research, testing, etc... but some of the prices I see folks willing to spend on a single pedal here is astounding. Again that is their choice, but I personally couldn't justify it for myself.
Another issue I have is folks acting as if this particular creator has no connections, or his foot in the door given that he already previously worked in this field.
I don't know how one quantifies cost according to certain aspects such as research/design, but I think when people ask for $500+ for a single pedal that is just flat out taking the piss.
