Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

from the dev:

"Here is a block diagram of the algorithms and a screenshot from the temporary editor. Please note that these are not yet final, this is implemented up to now, and maybe some more is coming yet. Oscillators on the block diagram are very simplified, you can see the real parameters on the screenshot. Beyond the three waveforms the oscillators have a special waveshaping mode that generates extremely rich metallic sounds. This requires the extra volume for each oscillator. Each oscillator has a pulse width modulation block with LFO and a release envelope.

The filter has lowpass, bandpass, highpass, notch modes with 12dB/oct or 24 dB/oct mode. The filter tracks perfectly with the pitch, you can drive it to oscillation to make whistle sounds that are tracking the pitch. "

Wow, when can I get one??

I wonder what is the difference between beat and fine tune? Also, what is the harmonizer, voice 1,2 &3?

Has a sample hold or multiple LFO waveforms been ruled out? I want to hear the resonant filter with S&H.

The ability to play a pitch tracking resonant filter by bass is insane. Turn off the oscs and blend in some light distortion and it could sound sorta rhodes like. Choice of filter type and poles, 4oscs....I've reached dangerous levels of stoked.

Okay to preface this by saying that I have had almost every commercially available bass synth pedal. I've had the Deep Impact 5 times! (Yeah I wish I would've kept at least one!). In my experience here is the order more or less of what I feel is from the "best" to the least "best":
1. Akai Deep Impact
2. Korg G5/SWR Mini Mo (Tie)
3. Markbass Super Synth
4. ElectroHarmonix Micro Bass Synth

See, I would put the BMS at the top of that list. I've had four of them and would still have one if it either wasn't so large or had patch memory.

The G5 and Super Synth sound pretty similar, but I'd put the SS above the G5 just because the G5's filter control is so badly flawed. And the G5 is way too big to be useful live.

As for the Deep Impact, I didn't spend much time with it because I wasn't really into the sounds it made, but it did a good job of what it did.

I wonder if providing that granularity of control would just scare people away - most couldn't use the Octavius Squeezer and that was a much simpler single-osc synth.

Also I'd rather lose one oscillator and have a ring mod circuit to mix in.

i thought about that too, but the ui of the effect is so simple and the editor is for the advanced user. this thing comes with 100 presets, plenty for people that don't want to mess with the editor. users could also share presets, another possibilty to get new sounds without touching the editor...

>> I wonder what is the difference between beat and fine tune?

Good question. Fine tune is scaled in cents (frequency ratio), while beats is scaled in Hz (absolute frequency). If you detune two oscillators in cents based scaling in the deep range, and then you go to high pitch, then you get a “rough interference” of the sounds, you should reduce detuning to get good sound again. If you detune in beats, this does not happen.

>> Also, what is the harmonizer, voice 1,2 &3?

Deep Impact sounds are a complex combination of a Unibass sound and synthesizer sound. Deep Impact has two harmonizer voices, just like Unibass: one is fixed at +1 octave, the other is variable as +7, +12, +19 or +24 semitones. Future Impact has one more variable voice.

First thing I did with my Octavius (currently my fav pedal) was clear all the presets. I don't like going through 20 presets the get to one of the few I actually use.

I would love option to delete presets.

So this thing is a combination of two heavily desired bass pedals improved and put into hopefully a sexier more usable package???

Keeps getting better. Please consider rear located in/out jacks. It looks cleaner, fits boards nicer and tighter and is less annoying.

Two questions for @lokki:

(1) True or buffered bypass?
(2) Expression pedal input?
