Well, I'm putting a lot of faith in the fact that he was a part of the original development of the Deep Impact. Maybe he was even part of the original coding? Or even HAS the original code lying around? I think/hope that's the difference (compared to, say, Source Audio developing the project from scratch).

I'm in the same camp. I'll believe it when I see it.

I have not 1 but 2 Akai SB-1's (the real model number, not DI) and love it, so of course I'd like an improved reissue but I'm skeptical at this point. Been following this thread since the beginning but have yet to chime in because I didn't want to sour the enthusiasm of the group. Hopefully it happens. I'm a buyer if it does and would be willing to pay upwards of $300 for an enhanced version. Although, I'm afraid my current units will drastically drop in value given the substitute. I have them as a player, not a collector but I justify the expense as an "investment" thinking I can easily flip them if needed. We'll have to wait and see about that one...

I still think it is. I understand why people are skeptical, but if @lokki is a reliable source (and I have no reason to think otherwise), then there's quite a bit of development that's already gone on.

ok, here to address some questions... :)

first, lokki is an abbreviation for locomotive in swiss german, so no dark side there (except for the smoke coming out of old locomotives)
and, no i don't like locomotives...but i like loki from dogma.

then as far as credibility goes. i understand the concern. read this thread, look at the pictures of the editor and the block-diagram. visit the homepage of the dev:

www.panda-audio.com and look under designs. why would somebody do all of this if it wasn't real? also note what else he did, look up his name. kind of like a genius in his genre i would say...

he did not work in a team at akai. this guy developed the sb-1 alone!!! he still has the code for sure. there is a prototype of the new version.
no i have not played it :)

the dev was also a bass player so maybe that helps. again look at his page

only reason this thing is not yet out is because its not for sure that there is enough "market" for it. smaller quantities mean higher price...you know the game. so let's gather as many people as possible and spread the word!

Hey @lokki thanks for the response! I wasn't trying to question your credibility, just trying to identify for everyone else the chain of logic here of what we know about the project and why we know it. Thanks for clarifying about the developer's relationship with Akai, I hope I didn't misstate it earlier.

I would love to see this thing go into crowdfunding sometime in 2015, but not right away, so that I can save up some funds...

I know some people don't like crowdfunding, but, for a project like this, it's not very different than taking pre-orders on a product. As long as the pledge tiers are mostly geared toward merchandise of some sort (like a t-shirt, actual units, etc.), I think it's perfectly acceptable.

In any event, this thing would go well next to an H9 MAX ;)

I've not done pre-orders, so I can't make that comparison. However, I know that with crowdfunding there is some concern with what will happen if the product never actually happens. To the best of my knowledge, Kickstarter provides somewhat better protections for this than Indiegogo. I agree that all tiers should have a merchandise tie-in. I really hate tiers that are like, "You're helping the cause!" or "You'll get a thank you on our website!" I won't mention the company by name, but there is a company that recently did this---virtually all of the tiers were basically just "give us money." That's not something I would WISH for. It RUBS me the wrong way, if you catch my drift. That company is asking us to think that we've NEVER HAD A FRIEND LIKE THEM. But again, no mentions by name here!

As I said earlier, the Panda Audio Future Impact seems like the perfect sort of project for what Kickstarter calls "stretch" goals. Basically, as you get more people involved and higher funding levels, you add features. So the base unit could be the one that the developer already has in mind, but maybe if he gets to $X then he could add one or more of USB, expression, ring mod, or something else. Everyone benefits, and there is more incentive for people to spread the word.

hey adamixoye, i was not addressing you. in fact i was not addressing anyone in particular. just wanted to clarify some things that were asked.

crowdfunding would be great, i agree. i will speak to the dev about it again. for now he will not join the thread, he thinks it's better to have a person in between (me). but at a later point he will join in i guess. i can understand that and respect that. after all he is doing development in his free time and needs to focus. he is reading the thread and we discussed some of the ideas that popped up. midi in and out expression pedal and stuff. so while communication is not 1:1 for now, it is very direct.

I would totally be into crowd funding for this. My hesitation (not hate) only comes from the fact that it's often very difficult to make a project like this work out from a dollars and cents point of view. I believe in the Dev and his background (and lokki too!). If I could preorder a unit as the buy-in I definitely would. But like Adam said, let's have the campaign start in 2015 so I can get the funds together.
