I would be very interested in this! I've had a Deep Impact for years (I was one of the lucky ones that got one when they were on closeout), and I've had it repaired twice. It'd be great to have a backup (or keep the Deep Impact as the backup to this pedal) and not have to worry so much about the original crapping out on me...

ok, some updates...

the prototype can be powered by battery for a reasonable time, great news! (and not "normal" for a digital pedal!)

there is the question of bypass:

does it have to be true bypass? fet bypass switching would be easier to implement, cheaper to produce and would use less current. also it would eliminate any clicking when engaging/disengaging the effect.

i realise that many people tend to true bypass. i was one of them for a long time. it was until i started building my own effect pedals. i realised that it makes sometimes more sense (also and especially soundwise) not to use true bypass.

In my opinion true bypass is not fundamental. However I would like a good buffered bypass. aguilar used those gig saver buffered bypass that are excellent. Thanks for the update!

I have no intent to power this with a battery whatsoever---I would much rather the time/space/money be spent on something else (or eliminated entirely).

If there is a cost/design reason for not doing true bypass, I can live with that. However, the quality of the bypass needs to be good, just like the post above.

IMO, the "options list" is starting to look a lot like a "to-do" list of chores your dad gave you and expected to be done. As with the mentality of that chore list, I believe the Future Impact shouldn't be the craziest, deepest synth on the planet (oh, how nice that would be), but rather a powerful pedal synth that takes ZERO/NONE/ZILCH shortcuts.

True bypass isn't obviously a necessity, but if it's buffered, make it a really high quality buffered bypass ala Source Audio. Apply this type of thinking to all of the other categories, and we'll all start to really agree on stuff!!

Definitely no requirement for a battery option. I've two pedals on my board that won't work with batteries and I don't know any gigging musicians that power their pedal boards with batteries (although there may be some with very simple setups or just a tuner etc.).

In case something bad happens to the power supply or pedal functionality mid show, it would be preferable to have your signal to bypass the pedal regardless of it's state of functionality.
