Pretty sure it's been stated that it is impossible. Same with the new Boss system as I understand.

Since this obviously converts to a specific pitch, it seems to me it wouldn't be impossible in principle. But it could easily be impossible in terms of memory, or prohibitive for how the firmware is designed. The SY-300 would probably be different because it is not "tracking" in the same way.

IIRC @Andras Szalay stated earlier in this thread that it wasn't possible to do due to the dsp limitations on the FI. I hope I am incorrect on this but I'm pretty sure this was stated.
Man if it were able to do that it would be game, set, match for the FI. It pretty much is already, but that would definitely seal the deal.
Ah OK, that's a shame, I've got a few recorded parts that I've doubled on a synth it would be nice to be able to play that and my bass at the same time live. To be fair though my FI can probably cop the sounds I'm using anyway, and its oscillators sound massive.

Here is another good news:
Chris Wolstenholme, the bass player of Muse was among the firsts to use the Future Impact. Now I got his quote. His opinion is:
'The pedal is just as good as the original, which is what as I was hoping for. The new presets and bank space are a bonus too'.

Andras, another key user of the old Deep Impact is Paul Turner, Jamiroquai bass player, he has two of them, one extra in case of failure! I know he will be happy , but perhaps not so happy of the impending drop in deep impact prices on eBay

If he's keeping a second one as a backup, I can't imagine he cares about the prices staying high...
I've now gigged with my FI twice and had it at a bunch of practices.
My opinion in short:
- great tracking. Really quite impressive.
- Very good sounds. Needs better presets and I need to explore more of the user created ones - my main comment is wanting more bass in almost all of the presets - it can sound kinda thin, especially when compared to a quality analog filter. It really does sound great though and the potential is definitely there for truly groundbreaking bass synth sounds.
- the knobs are a bummer. I can't believe how lame they feel and how easily they move. I have to check mine constantly to make sure they are right. Any movement around the pedal board is very likely to move them. I have also managed to hit the knob that moves to another bank, twice in one freaking song and had to cycle all the way through. Has anyone gotten theirs rehoused?

There might be a spot coming open on the second batch. I think I might be cancelling my order. it's just taking too long. I'm deploying in a few days for a couple months. If it gets shipped to me it will just wind up either sitting on my porch for two months or getting returned to sender.
How easy would it be for a pedal guru such as Johnk and your buddy in the UK (or someone like them closer to home to eliminate shipping hassles) to put in new knobs, and is this even feasible??

I'm working on rehousing, your input has me considering resessed knobs. Honestly, if I were to preform live again I would try to use only one bank and only adjust in/out levels. I want to rehouse because I tinker and I think the package could be smaller, not because I think it is a poor job, I think it looks great. If panda figures out how to get these to the states with out isanely priced shipping I'll buy a second.
As for analog filter tonality, open up the filter on the FI and put a 4pole or Chunk Systems filter post synth. I think any 4pole (moog, Source Audio...) or a synthy 2pole like Chunk may give you what your looking for. IMO it takes a higher slope filters to sound more synth than Tron. Though, try everything in your arsenal, perhaps Tron is what you desire. Then, post samples for me to gush over!
Also, I have had great results driving the signal post FI with my Eden Timetraveler. It has a great sounding analog overdrive and can even warm up my favorite 8bit synths. Not that the FI needs warming, but it is an interesting tool/option to have.

Recessed knobs could work well. I've only been using one preset live (0.1 with some more envelope depth, a little less resonance, a little more clean blend and then a little less effect). It's a killer preset but it really could be so much better. I gigged it again last night and while I didn't hit the bank button, my input knob somehow got knocked as I tap danced around the board. Ugh....I really need to fix that. I swear I am about to tape the shagers down.
I don't know what you mean bud when you say "open up the filter and put a 4 pole post synth". Are you saying to move the cutoff frequency to a point that the filter on the FI doesn't engage but you get all the other goodies, and then feed that to a Moog? That could be really cool. I have a few great analog filters I could try that with. Another option might be to use the 3Leaf Wonderlove and put the FI in the effects loop? Something like that?
I am 100% convinced though that all the sounds I am looking for are contained in this little machine. It does sound great - I just wanna make it sound unbefreakinglievable.
btw - @lokki - is there any setting on the FI that you can think of that would replicate a violin patch, or even better strings. We play Bittersweet Symphony by the Verve and I would love to be able to play that intro on a good string patch. My unit is still stock so all of your presets should be there.

Yes, setting the cutoff on the FI at highest point (with res minimized) lets through all frequencies or "opens" up the filter. Then what ever envelop follower placed post FI effectively replaces the FI filter.
That said, The SA BEF & Manta filters removed the digital stigma for me. Digi filters done right can be every bit as fun. I have had great results with the FI filter. But sometimes I just got to hear the FI through my Chunk Systems OS filter, Moog Minituar or my original MuIII.
I'm still a bit confused on the difference between the vintage and normal cutoff. Once I read the manual I expect it is easy to understand.
