The ES5 is the bomb. Besides being able to reorder pedals on a per patch basis, excellent midi cc control, built in buffer and mixer, etc.. The game changer for me is parallel loop mode. I can have both my bass and synth active at the same time without having to use an A/B switch and have them placed anywhere in the chain I desire. Pretty sick!

I see you used some lava connectors which definitely save space, especially if you use the right angle ones. I've been using them for years, but now I slowly started switching to the EBS right angle patch cables. Pretty cool and the cable is flat.

You could also gain some space by swapping out your midi cables with the one control midi cables. A little pricey, but they are the most compact midi cable out there, and you can flip the orientation of the connector too!

Updated MIDI cables. I've now spent a few pedals' worth of cash on trying all different midi cables. ;) All the flat cables are Square Plug, so they're about as flat as you're going to get...The EBS kind of freak me out because they're not user friendly for rebuilds. I'd really like to add a smaller 5th Gear to this board eventually. I did have the VFE BumbleBee on it instead of the Slow Engine but once I switched to the ES-5 and re-wired everything I couldn't get it to play nice with the Timeline. There was a high pitched digital whine no matter what power tap on my CS-12 it was on. I also have a John Kallas Cross-Mix being built, which will take the place of the Divaricator and I think is slightly smaller.

I haven't fully played around with the parallel effects component yet. The one place it would be super interesting to me would be with my Mantic Flex Pro (insane PLL Synth), and I actually don't have that in any of my loops, but out front.

I am pondering doing a bit of adjustment though and putting my FI in front of the Mantic then using a pitch shifted patch into the Mantic, which seems to relish guitar frequency signal even more than bass frequencies (it does really cool stuff with bass too, though).

IIRC if you use the new firmware you need to use the new editor, even if it's temporary, due to a file-type change? Also I see they list 'Improved pitch tracking' on the update. Any early adopters who can speak to this and what noticeable changes there have been?

Beautiful! Love it!! Suhweeeet!!

Yeah the one control midi cables aren't cheap, but they work really well for pedal boards!!

I started to move away from the Lava connectors because I had the tips come off stuck inside the pedal. This happened to me three times in two different pedals. I had to take the pedal apart to get the tip out. I love the lava cables and connectors but once this started happening to me it freaked me out, so I'm slowly starting to move away from them. I guess if I didn't rearrange my pedal board so much perhaps it wouldn't have happened. But honestly it should never happen, especially since they aren't cheap. Has this ever happened to you?

I downloaded the new editor. It looks exactly the same. The only thing I noticed that was different was in the drop down menu providing the ability to save programs from the pedal to the computer.

I've only had the Lava connectors on my board for about a month. I'll keep an eye on it...they're only on the ES-5 side of the cables though. Thanks for the heads up. I will say that I like the Lava right angle cables better than the straight-draw cables.

So, yeah it sounds like a stop-gap just to be able to use whatever the new file/format the patches are in. Not that I'm editing much but good to know.

One thing about the One Control MIDI cables is they are not fully wired to the MIDI spec, basically if you put them in a cable tester you will notice a missing connection (I forget the pin number details). One effect I've noticed is that you cannot use them for carrying power, such as to/from the MIDI Solutions Merge and Thru boxes.

Hmmm I didn't realize that. That actually means that midi din 2 isn't grounded. I have made midi cables for that purpose in the past.

I guess if it's needed in your application, all you would need to do is ground pin 2 of the midi din on the One control that gets connected to the midi out device that comes before the midi pedal that needs voltage. This is what I've done in the past and it works.

This happened to me with the "regular" solder free connectors several times. This hasn't happened with the Piston connectors I now use.

Hopefully this won't be an issue for me since I'm not passing power by MIDI. It was on my radar that they were not wired quite in the same way (I saw that in a review), which was why I'd sort of held off on buying them.

I still use several of them, the power issue is my only known issue with them (so I can use them for some cable runs but not others).
