Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

I think I mentioned. I'm not just using saved patches. I need to scroll through stuff on occasion.
Yes I understood that. I did mention that in my post above. Just wanted to clarify to others that you do not need to make multiple moves to operate an ES5 normally. :)

Btw, did you experiment with programming the ES5 buttons in preset mode? You can assign cc's to them. You may be able to achieve what your looking for.

I haven't yet. I'm still waiting for some new cabling materials to get everything fully wired.
I will dive into the ES's usability to scroll with ease. I don't doubt that it can do what I want, it's more or less how easy it is to get there. And remember since I'm using the ES for my other effects, it may be more conducive in a live setting to have the ES running a patch that features my verb/delay/chorus options then have a controller that allows me to access my FI for patch options on the fly.

Anyone know what the CC for bypass/on and the values for each?

I can't seem to find it in the manual... even after multiple passes.

I'm programming my Boss ES-5 and that would be a helpful thing. The Disaster Area DMC-3XL appears to have recognized and auto-loaded the settings, which is good news.

I think I figured it out...labeled on page 13 as 'SOSTENUTO" (Control 66; Effect on/off). If <64 then switch the relay to bypass, if =>64 then to effect.

This seems to be bypass/on.

CC69 is the one which will toggle like a momentary switch.

I don't think that's implemented in firmware 2.0.3, the most recent one on the website. It's planned for the major but unreleased firmware update and the intermediate updated that I think has been shared with a few people.

Definitely not looking to act as a momentary. Since I've got two controllers and not necessarily pinned down to not just using the pedals I'm setting up CC's for all the MIDI pedals to turn them off if I'm using a patch on the ES-5. So all my patches on the ES have CC's for all the pedals bypassing ones not in use. My 'clean' loop setting is an 'all off' reset.

Of course, all subject to change with the new firmware and the new editor. ;) As of right now I have my board set up pretty much as I'd hoped. I've got two ways to control, the ES-5 and the Disaster Area DMC-3XL. The ES is set up with all patches that are pre-programmed with loops and/or the MIDI pedals that are not in the loop. The FI resides in front of the ES and my Timeline and Atmosphere are behind it.

The DMC does a really good job of making picking devices, scrolling patches and on/off easy, while the ES does well by combining loops and triggering the MIDI pedals at the same time.

Also, bonus with the DMC...it allows me to change the Atmosphere patches while in bypass, which is something it won't do without MIDI.

I don't know if "momentary" is necessarily the right word. The existing command requires the same CC# but one value for bypass and one for engage. The forthcoming command will take the same CC# but the same value to "flip" the state, whatever the state it.

Cool, so basically change of state.

I think I would prefer to use the actual on/off cc command than a bypass cc, but that’s just me. Obviously depends on your needs.

If you just use the same cc bypass command, wouldn’t you run into a problem if you call up two FI patches one after the other? Wouldn’t the 2nd patch turn it off then if it was previously on? Unless you are dedicating a foot switch to control this. Forgive me if I’m not making sense here.

I was considering a while ago using the cc command to turn the FI on and off but I love having the FI in a loop so I have the parallel loop option available. I have my virtual synths patches into one loop of my ES5 and my Korg R3 into another loop. Sometimes I need to play both bass and keys in the same tune so it’s nice to have the parallel loop to provide me access to both without having to switch my patch. If you don’t need to do something like this with a parallel loop, then it definitely makes total sense to free up an ES5 loop since you can turn the FI on and off with a CC command.

It makes more sense to have on and off CCs as different entities. Because sending a CC to make sure a pedal is off (or on) won't create problems if the pedal happens to already be in that state.

I don't have any of my MIDI pedals in the loops. So, I'm successfully using the DMC-3XL to scroll/click through patches on any of the three midi pedals and turn them on and off on the fly. But in my preset patches on the ES, it's easy enough to switch off the FI or any of the others when I go to the patches I've set up for songs. That's across all pedals, and important in places where I have 2 or more patches for loops per song.

Yes, that’s what I meant. A toggle switch to flip the state.

So I'm a total noob here when it comes to switching system. So what I need is unit that can turn on (for example), FI prog. 112 + Octabvre + EQD Dispatch Master, and then FI prog 234 + You're Doom + Moog lowpass filter... like saving a scenes with analog and digital pedals? ES-5, Disaster Area? What would you suggest:

This is my pedalboard and sometimes I do much of tap dancing. thanks in advance for some advice...

ES-5 or ES-8 should do the trick. Talk to @GisserD.

You are correct...The ES-5 and 8 totally do this. I have the 5, but if you have the room for an 8, go for it. ;)

I haven't been utilizing the FI in this yet, but have indeed used it to combine preset patches on other midi-pedals with standard pedals for patches or 'scenes'

For instance, I have a song that goes back and forth between just a chorus pedal and a patch that has chorus but also envelope, fuzz, volume swell and (MIDI) Strymon Timeline set to a delay with 5th/octave.

I have another song that triggers fuzz/envelope then a tape delay emulation. But yes, you pick the pedal (midi channel) and which patch/setting you want on it and program that in and save it.

You also don't have to put the MIDI pedals in any of the loops if you place them carefully. For instance I have my Future Impact placed before my ES-5 and then the Timeline (delay) and my Atmosphere (reverb) after the ES-5 which are where I'd place that stuff in a traditional setup without a switch/loop system. The only thing you lose by doing that is the ability to move around the midi pedals in your effects chain (the Boss units allow you to change loop placement at will).

Man thanks a lot for this, so yea ES-5 it will be, no need for ES-8, because I have no room on pedalboard and no need for stereo. And better start with something smaller.... you described it just perfect what I need. Thanks!

My one thought on the ES-5 v. ES-8 is that the 8 does give you the ability to easily scroll through midi device patches. While the 5 is more useful to build patches and execute rather than scroll. I couldn't fit an 8 on my board, so my solution was to include a midi-controller that does allow me to chose devices then scroll...the Disaster Area DMC-3XL:

Very sweet selection of pedals there!

Speaking for myself you have tons of room on that board. I'm a nut and utilize every inch of space. I even will make my own platforms to fit more pedals if needed LOL. I see you used some lava connectors which definitely save space, especially if you use the right angle ones. I've been using them for years, but now I slowly started switching to the EBS right angle patch cables. Pretty cool and the cable is flat.

You could also gain some space by swapping out your midi cables with the one control midi cables. A little pricey, but they are the most compact midi cable out there, and you can flip the orientation of the connector too!
