Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

It does do that which means I can assign a FI patch for a MS3 patch. But I like it in manual mode so wanted to assign different FI patches to the switches in one MS3 patch. I currently have two extra foot switches so would have 6 foot switches that could be effects or FI / C4 sounds plus any looped effects I might want. Bit of a shame on the Ms3 to miss this option. So to change FI sounds I need to have a patch for each.

I’d suggest getting a Morningstar MC6 and you’d be able to do that. You can have it have two-way communication with the MS3 so that changing a patch on one alters what’s visible and useable on the other. I’ve seen a video where someone does this kind of thing with an HX Stomp and MC6 combination, it’s very slick. Basically you could change patch on the MS3 and it would send a message to the MC6 which would then jump to its relevant bank in which the buttons pointed to your chosen FI patches.

Thanks Q. I had to laugh as I thought you might mention the MC6 - I think I could do this with my Soleman and have considered it but I want to keep my board small, currently just have FI, C4 and Aftershock + the MS3. This covers a lot of ground for a small board. I have looked at the MC6 based on you previous comments an it does look really good, I like that you can add an extra 3 foot switched on one CTRL port. If I ditch the MS3 I will need another multi FX for all those once in a while effects the MS3 has and a comp (I have Spectracomp). I would then seriously consider the MC6 to drive it all. Does anyone have a recommendation for a small multi FX. I have looked at the little HX but it needs 3A and i run my board with a Joyo battery which only kicks out 2A in total. I really like the portable board. :)

It blows my mind to not consider something like the HX because of a cheap power supply. I’d recommend upgrading your power supply so that doesn’t dictate what’s on your board. It’s always amusing to me to see thousands of dollars of pedals getting powered by the cheapest power source available. Not only will a better power supply open up your options, it will protect your fancy pedals and make them perform the best they can.

I see what you are saying but I have to say the Joyo JP-05 has been rock solid for a year - it runs on a external power adaptor (similar to the MXR brick) so there is little risk of it pumping a high voltage into my pedals. on battery it powers all my pedals for a good few hours with no issues, so its really convenient when turning up to practices (I always keep it plugged in for gigs). That said - I had another look at the HX, its clearly very good but I don't think I can justify the cost for the little use it will get, the Boss is ideal as it gives me a midi controller with the additional effects as a bonus. If I could send PC messages from the assigns I would be very happy with what I have. The other option being that the FI could do patch changes from CC like the C4 does, hence my original question. Apologies I think I have dragged this thread on a bit of a tangent. Q, is there any plan to add CC patch select in the future - doesn't seem like it would be so much to implement that?

Not that I know of. I also highly doubt it. Code space is precious and this feature is something I’d suspect very few people would need as PC messages work just fine for most users. I can, however, see how it could be useful, like being able to recall a patch in a bypassed state, but again, this could be achieved by sending a PC message with a simultaneous CC message to bypass the pedal.

Worth remembering that the main reason that the CC-message-to-select-presets feature is present in the C4 pedal is because the Source Audio Hub doesn’t pass on PC messages to any pedals connected to it via the 3.5mm TRRS cables. That is, it’s the only way to access the onboard presets if connected to the Hub.

I’d be contacting Boss and asking if they could add MIDI PC as one of the options for the MS3, though being such a massive company, the request may not get to the right people. This is why I love small companies like Panda, Source Audio and Morningstar Engineering - all have been really receptive to feature requests I’ve sent them.

Thanks Q. I can see why this would not be added to the FI as PC should be enough. That's interesting info on the C4 - until recently I only used the hub and scenes so never bothered with loading preset to the pedal. I don't have much hope that boss will update their firmware so I will have to put up with it as it or look at something else. I hung onto my Soleman in case I didn't get on with the MS3. So I we will see how it goes. Thanks for being so helpful as always. S

You’re welcome.

I think the Hub scene implementation is a fantastic invention and find that onboard pedal presets almost seems like a step backwards when using a multi-pedal setup; it's so easy to set up a scene and that kind of ease is what I guess most of us are after when we hook up multiple pedals.

PS - totally with you on the small companies, I've not had much to do with Morningstar, but Panda and especially SA are fantastic for engaging with their customers.

James and Ben at Morningstar are brilliant. I got in touch with James just after I got the MC6 as I’d spotted some bugs but also had some feature requests. It got to the point where he was sending me firmware to test. He’s actually used a fair few of the feature ideas I’ve suggested over the past seven months or so, which is nice.

Andras is also engaged with customers - after all, FI came about after someone got in touch and asked him to make it and its development was all documented and discussed here. Also, I got involved as a direct result of communicating with him on this thread.

Source Audio are indeed also very engaged with their customers - loads of their development process involved getting user input on forums and it benefits everyone.

^Thank You. I will see what the guys are doing.

I'm working in a lousy workaround: I manually write the program names in a text file and associate with a mandatory number. If I change a program one day, I will need to edit the text file again... LOUSY AS HELL! But, as I'm not intent to comercialize it, I can live with that :D

When you import programs with FI Editor, (at least since v3.0, I never use FI before that) the names came with all parameters. But I can't figured out how capture this excepting with FI editor.

It'll be part of the sysex data I presume. Run the output of the editor into a midi monitor and see what gets spat out when you change a patch.

I wonder if it could be done at the point that the files get written to the pedal - it could maybe sit in between the FI and the PC and harvest the relevant sysex data as they appear during the write process.

Hi!
I'm making an external midi controller for FI, and I can change programs with "shortcuts" in this external controller... Also I can "read" which program is selected in FI and shows it in a external lcd...

Well, almost done... But I would like to know if it's possible to FI sends the "name" of the program and How I can read it...
Below a photo of my current "endeavour", the "FX : XXX" still a bogus text, where I would like to write the actual name of FI program.

Thanks
Not yet implemented, but a good idea for a next software update. The name can be included in a sysex message.

Greetings all. Just wanted to drop in and send positive vibes and good wishes to all my bass synth brothers and sisters. I've been swamped at work due to COVID and I can't wait for normalcy. I have lost track of what day it is. Every day feels like Monday. While some are going nutty being quarantined for so long, I can't wait to quarantine myself, curl up in my bed for a week with my tablet and Netflix. My brain needs a major reset. Physically and mentally exhausted. I think I've played my bass for a total of 10 minutes since March. Sucks.

Anyhow I just wanted to drop in and say hi and I hope everyone and their families, friends, etc, are safe and healthy. :)

Lots of info in this thread, might have been covered already. Will the dmc.micro double as a midi interface with the Future Impact so I can use it to talk to my MacBook for the editor and do firmware updates? Thanks!
If it has then a search within this thread using the terms “DMC micro” and “interface” would pull up the results.
