Been using the V3 pedal for almost a year now but this is my first foray into trying to understand MIDI (on any level). Trying to keep things simple at first: I've got the editor downloaded onto the computer, Roland UM-ONE interface driver installed and cables connected properly.

At this time, I can not use the editor to change any of the patches (programs). All I hear is whatever program is on the pedal. Been trying to get to Quatschmacher's programs!! I've downloaded 1 of them from the directory and got it loaded onto the editor (and it shows the parameter changes) but again, I hear no differences, just the program from the pedal.

Also, I'm still on update 3.03 because anytime I try to update the firmware I get an error signal (from both the editor and/or the Chrome webpage).

I'm assuming it's something simple...Anybody have any suggestions? (Go easy...first time Midi user!!)

Are the lights of the UM-one on when you plug it into the computer’s USB port?

When the FI is connected to the computer correctly, two horizontal lines will appear in its display.

Most likely you have the MIDI cables plugged into the wrong ports.

UM-One MIDI IN goes to FI MIDI OUT.

UM-one MIDI OUT goes to FI MIDI IN.

(That’s because the um-one’s plugs are telling you where the signal to/from the computer’s USB port are going. It’s easier to understand if you look at the arrows on the Um-one’s cable plugs.)

Also, if you have editor v3.60 installed, you need to have the corresponding firmware installed on the pedal.

When installing by chrome or using the editor, plug in the UM-one BEFORE launching the browser/editor.

Have you selected the UM-one as the ports via the MIDI>preferences menu in the editor?

Is there a connection sequence that I need to be careful about (not described in your response) that I need to be aware of? i.e. when to connect cables/turn on FI, turn on computer etc...)

So, I'm still getting a communication error and I still have yet to see the horizontal lines in the display of the FI. I've also confirmed in the audio set up of my computer that the UM-One is receiving data (the application allows you to run a test).

Not trying to make my headache anybody else's; I do apologize for not having successful results. I'm sure it'll get sorted (I've been in contact with Panda) but I am so grateful for the community's feedback and support.

Yes. After I follow the steps and it tries to run the update (both Editor and Chrome) it gives me the error code/response.

Also, I edited my original response to you and added a photo of what it looks like when the UM plugged into the computer and FI. (Not sure if that photo is of any use...)

Go to midimonitor.com and see if the um-one is showing up there.

it might be that the driver didn’t install correctly. Happened to me once and had to manually pick it from the list in Windows.

That’s very odd. You should only see each device once in the list. Wonder if you have a MIDI loop somewhere.

close all other MIDI apps. Disconnect any other devices using MIDI. Turn off MIDI Thru on the FI for now too. (Consult the manual on how to do that.)

Glad you got it working. As I said, the arrows represent the signal flow of MIDI data so the arrow that points from the MIDI (IN) plug towards the USB plug represents MIDI data flowing from the FI to the computer and hence needs to be plugged into the FI’s OUT port (data comes out of the FI and into the computer).

By the same token, the arrow which points from the USB plug towards the end of the MIDI (OUT) plug represents MIDI data flowing from the computer into the FI so needs to be plugged into the FI’s IN port.

sign yourself up for an account on the panda database site so that you can simply browse and write patches directly in the cloud. Read the section of the manual on THE MANAGER.
