Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

I understand, but I was doing both to make doubly sure nothing could ring out. I was not muting the notes in the second half of the recording, and the results wer the same. Did you listen to it? There is a lot of space between notes, and it still retriggers on the previous high note.
What type of bass is this. For example but c4 reacts differently to my schecter p5 with hot ceramic pickups vs my lakland alnico p5. Do you have a different type bass to use?

Haven’t been able to listen as yet as I’m out and about in a noisy city.

It doesn't seem to work for me. I think my muting is pretty good. But maybe not good enough, right? Here's an example I just recorded. For the first few notes, I am completely muting all notes even while playing them, and you can hear the jumps when I move down in pitch (never up, which I guess makes sense since higher notes trigger faster).

When the pace of notes slows down around 10 seconds in, I am playing large intervals to make it more obvious, and I'm actually turning my bass volume all the way off between notes. You can still clearly hear all the high notes retriggering before the low notes sound.

What could I possibly be doing wrong here?

That is not normal behavior with my Future Impact at all with the settings I use. Are you sure you aren’t hitting other strings with your fingers before or after triggered notes that might be getting tracked? Have you played around with the “Note On” and “Note Off” settings on the face of the pedal alongside Input Level? These settings are vital to hone in on clean tracking and avoid extraneous note tracking. I assume you have played with different pickup settings and different basses as well?

I've tried it with:
L2500, cobalt flats
Nordy P/MM, rounds
Dingwall NG3, rounds
Each was tried with fingers and pick, in active and passive, tone up and down, and all pickup combinations.

I also tried it with a Yamaha guitar. I didn't hear the pitch retriggering, but weirdly, it couldn't track the high notes (12th fret and up on the high E and B) at all, sometimes it was a 5th off, not just for a second, but holding stable.

I've played a lot of tracking synth pedals - C4, Roland V-bass system, EHX pedals, various analog octavers, etc. My playing tracks well with all of them. I think my muting is pretty good.

Like I said, in my recording I actually turned the bass volume all the way down between notes, so there was no possibility of notes ringing, and it still retriggered.

I just tried playing with the Note On/Off on the front panel. It didn't seem to make any difference. And also... Note On is set to 1, and Note Off is set to 5. I rotate the dial to change them, but when I go to another parameter and come back to them, they are still set to 1 and 5. That seems like a pedal malfunction, no?

Yes, those should hold their new values at least until you turn the pedal off or switch to a different preset. FWIW- A Note On value of 1 for me will give lots of extraneous triggers. Did you buy the pedal used or new? Have you done a firmware update? You might want to try a factory reset!

Also- assuming the pedal is in Bass mode (it sounds like it probably is), a guitar won’t track correctly. But best to make sure it isn’t in some other mode- when you plug in power the screen should show a couple of boot items including one that is the current firmware and one that says “bSS” for bass mode

Whoops, user error on the parameters not holding their values, I wasn't pushing the edit dial. But changing those values doesn't affect the problem.

I bought the pedal used, and I did a firmware update, I'm on 3.61 now. I also reloaded all the factory patches.

By "factory reset" I assume you mean Reset All in the Boot Menu? I hadn't done that, but I just did it. All parameters are now at 5, but the retriggering problem remains.

This is super frustrating, as I otherwise like the pedal a lot. How can I tell if it's malfunctioning or if I'm doing something wrong?

That doesn’t sound great.

My first guess is that it’s set to “guitar” mode instead of “bass”. Does it show “gtr” or “bss” at power on?

My second thought would be that if it was recently updated from v2.xx to 3.xx perhaps the preset memory wasn’t flushed properly by loading the v3.5 soundset (if users miss out this essential step it causes errors).

It is set to bass, and I did load the latest soundset, whichever one it prompted me to load. Should I reinstall 3.61?

Hmm. Can’t hurt to try and then reloading the soundset afterwards.

Are you supplying it with at least 100mA current too?

Have you set the input level as per the instructions in the manual?

Is the FI getting a signal straight from your bass or are other pedals in front of it in the chain?

Smeet did you own an FI before? I feel like I bought one off a guy with username Smeet
Yeah that was probably me. I wanted it and I was convinced I would learn it and use it. I didn’t, and I didn’t. But this time I swear I will. I swear it.

Yes, yes, and yes. It’s in a loop of a passive looper, with everything else switched out of the chain. I also tried it literally plugging in directly, with the same results.

I reinstalled 3.61 and reloaded the 3.5 sounds, no change.

I continue to be amazed by the versatility of the FI - as long as I adapt my playing to let it do it's thing. @Quatschmacher I took your Christmas Phat (Original Eqd) patch and discovered that if I set CC1 to 127 (wide open) I have a pretty nice Deeper Underground bass synth patch.
Cool. If you go into the patch on the editor, you could simply set the sliders to the values that are when CC1 is at max and remove the assignments altogether to have the patch always sound that way without the need for sending the CC.

Definitely. I have the FI fairly well integrated with my Morningstar midi controller, Helix floor, and expression pedal. I actually use the same patch with different CC values for a bunch of songs. I'm getting a midi bass this summer (hopefully) and looking forward to trying use that for full midi control of the FI as well as my MOOG synths.

Which MIDIbass?
