I sometimes struggle finding good bass synth or lines to inspire myself to creat patches on the FI. This band its great and they have inspired me a lot recently. They are heavily bass & synth driven, and very good musicians.

Could anyone, in an not to complicated way, explain how to arrange and rename the sounds in the FI v3,6.
I have the midiBeam4control device but don’t really understand the way the manager and editor works.
It’s really not flexible changing sounds and not especially intuitive.

It’s detailed very clearly in the user manual which you can access directly within the editor.
Well, that's where I've been trying to understand how to do it but it seems i don't get in contact with my FI through the midiBeam4. I'm using MacOS Sierra 10.12.6. Could the problem be a too old OSX?
I get error message *This directory does not contain any FI programs* even though it clearly does. I'm about to give up on this pedal since it's too hard to edit and order sounds. Or maybe it's broken in some way.
Your OS should be fine. I use Mac and it works well. Screenshots help so here's where to load files that are on your computer:
Once you choose the proper directory you should be able to go to the "Manager" under the "Mode" menu and then move the presets around.
To pull sounds off your FI to reorder you have to be in Manager and choose "Download from FI". That'll load the 99 patches in the grid to do with as you please. Once you have them ordered properly you choose "Upload to FI". Does that help?

Sounds like you might need to read the 4Control manual if you’re not getting it to connect with your editor. It needs to be in interface mode to connect to the computer.
Or are you able to manipulate patches via the editor?
Often the main problem is that users have plugged the cables into the incorrect ports between FI and interface.
Ok, thanks. I’ll keep on trying to solve it. I usually don’t have any problems with these kind if things and working with midi and manuals of all sorts so in this case unfortunately there must be another less obvious problem, maybe there is a fault in the interface. I boughmy unit second hand so that may be why it was sold in the first place.
I just think it’s a shame that it’s not possible to change the order in the FI itself, that may be a dealbreaker for me in the end. The sounds are ok and tweakable enough in the unit itself.

I will keep on trying, I just need to regroup and get new energy because it’s a creativekiller to sit for hours snd not get anywhere.
Also I should mention I can’t prelisten to the sounds by pressing the note in the left corner of the filemanager as suggested in the manual.
You have to have the FI properly connected to hear the notes. It sounds like the FI isn’t connected to your Mac. You should check the connection using the Audio MIDI Utility program on your Mac. I made a post about checking connections with a Roland Um-One a few pages back.
Maybe this will help you with your issue. It sounds like a MIDI issue. Disregard the Comp/Tab and other Um-One hardware specific mentions

I can do everything else fine in the manager, swap places, edit names etc. But after I've done that and saved it both as is in the manager and to my local files it's as if nothing really has changed. The only way to actually change the names in the manager is to do it manually directly on my computers desktop outside the manager and then try to load them back.
In the end though the renaming is not the important thing since I don't see any of it on the FI in a live situation. But the the possibility to get the sounds I find usable in the right order, preferable in the first 10 spots on the unit is what I'm after and I can't seem to get that happening... at least not now. This whole procedure seem very over-complicated and not intuitive at all... and by all means, I'm no tech wiz but I've been managing fine +30 years with all kinds of effects and synths

Check that you’ve selected the correct MIDI ports in the midi preferences menu of the editor. Check connections. Make sure your FI is hooked up and is on the same MIDI channel as the editor’s graphical keyboard.
to check your 4Control is being detected, you could hook it up (close editor first), launch a chrome web browser and go to midimonitor.com to check its showing up.

Yes I've done that and the 4control is detected and used both MIDI in & out on the manager/editor, so that part seems to work. But when I change something (name or swap places) and try to send it to the FI I get these messages.

I get that same error message when my FI is not connected to the computer. I just tested it without having the FI with me. What does this screen show?
There is a communication problem between the editor and the FI unit definitely, but I can't seem to find it. The midi connection seems to work as far as I can see it in the midi preferences.
So do I miss something crucial as far as the FI connection to the 4Control unit? Anything I need to do to get the contact between the 4control and the FI working? A special order of starting things up? Holding down programs and/or 'on/off buttons'?

Disable the keyboard input device. That should not be assigned to anything for what you’re trying to do and will cause a loop.
