I’ve been alerted to (and confirmed) a bug in v4.11 where PCs on channels other than the FI’s own are not being forwarded via MIDI thru. I’ve reported it and it will hopefully be fixed soon.

Got mine yesterday. It's awesome! What a great product.

Has anyone tested MIDI to USB cables for firmware and patch updates? My main audio interface is setup for use with iPad and, while it works, is a pain to disconnect/reconnect all devices to add the future impact to my laptop to do this. I guess I could buy an extra interface just for this use (like one on the Support page), but would rather get a $20 usb/midi cable (or $40 bluetooth midi).

I purchased the CME USB-MIDI cable and CME Bluetooth MIDI and neither works for this. Perhaps they work for MIDI CC, haven't tested, but I need something that also allows me to manage patches.

Any cheap MIDI usb interface will work for updates.

They should all work.

Did you install any relevant drivers for the two that you couldn’t get to work?

(For example, the Roland UM-One Mk2, which has always been super reliable, only works if one installs the driver. Not all interfaces are class compliant.)

Were those interfaces visible in the MIDI preferences menu of the FI editor?

If so, what didn’t work exactly? If they were visible and you got a “communication error”, then likely you had the cables plugged into the opposite ports. (Happens all the time, even with veteran MIDI users.)

If they weren’t visible, then there’s likely been some problem with the class-compliant driver.

You do need to make sure the MIDI preferences menu isn’t open at the point you connect the interface as it won’t show up. (The ports only get scanned when the editor starts and when you open the MIDI preferences menu.)

I also couldn't get the FI editor to work with a CME WIDI Jack. My M-Audio interface has MIDI ports on it so I used those instead.

Interfaces were not even visible in midi preferences menu. I didn't install any drivers. I didn't think I'd have to and their instructions didn't mention any. I assumed they'd be class compliant (and frankly - if they're not, then that's a frustrating limitation).

Acknowledging the MIDI preferences menu not being open when I connect. I discovered that myself after being frustrated for a half hour or so.

OK, so the the interfaces are problematic rather than the Editor.

I read up on the two you mentioned as not working and they are indeed meant to be class compliant. Might be worth emailing the companies to let them know there was an issue.

Were there any instructions for how to use them the first time?

Are they visible in your device manager? If so, might be worth clicking the “update driver” to see if there’s an updated version for them.

Were you connecting them via a USB hub? Some products can be finicky with those.

All interfaces except the Lekato connected through my Dell usb c hub. Do modern computers even have USB A still? The lekato is usb c so I went direct but still did not work.

It's possible I missed something and figured it out later. I'm just happy that I get to keep the $10 one - ie the cheapest. The rest all went back to Amazon

I haven't tried it since the latest FI update, but in my testing, the CME devices showed up in MIDI preferences, but the FI editor would crash and close as soon as I'd try to use the manager to show the list of patches in the FI, for example. It would work flawlessly if I used my M-Audio's MIDI jacks. I just updated my FI the other night. I'll try the CME WIDI Jack again as soon as I get the chance.

That may because you already have a USB MIDI port in use. Windows only allows a single instance. Make sure the CME isn’t acting as a MIDI connection elsewhere on your machine (eg in an open chrome browser).

@Quatschmacher . Just FYI. I found I small typo in the 4.11 User Guide on page 78 when I was mapping note lengths on my midi controller. I think the first 1/16D is not meant to be there:
PULSE WIDTH LFO FRQ (1/1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/4T, 1/8T, 1/16D, 1/16T,
1/4D, 1/8D, 1/16D)
.

Ah bugger, I’ve obviously missed this ever since v3.50!

Same issue after updating the FI4 and editor. On a clean Windows boot, with no other apps running, and my audio interface disconnected, I can go into FIEeditor4 MIDI preferences and the WIDI Jack is the only visible option here. No other USB MIDI devices connected or in use. When I click Download from FI in the Manager, the first tile 01 populates and then the program closes. No error message. If for example I have one of the WIDI Jack;'s cables disconnected from the FI, I get a message that the FI is not detected, so the editor doesn't seem the be crashing just because it's trying to access the WIDI jack. It crashes once it has started transferring patch data. It works fine if I connect physical cables to my M-Audio interface. I just have to unpatch a couple of things each time I want to hook up the FI4.
