Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

Very cool. Great work by the Panda team on implementing audio-to-midi conversion! I had no trouble understanding the write-up in the manual - thanks. Besides the audio to midi note feature is there anything else in the new firmware for those of us who use it as a synthesizer module? I was sad to see that the list of assigned cc's was not expanded. Most modern synths have a pretty complete midi implementation for external control of parameters. The lack of much external control probably limits the market for this great sounding little synth. Oh well.

Everything can be controlled by the NRPNs that the editor uses. So you could map many things to the pots of day a FaderFox unit. At some point I want to incorporate the NRPN document into the editor.

What sort of things would you have liked to have seen CCs for?

There are a few things I think would be useful but with all of this stuff, code space

That's really interesting. I figured something had to be going on in the background to set the parameter values. Is the NRPN document shareable? I will give serious thought to what parameters are most relevant to me for Midi control, but the top of mind things are those that I would be most likely to change in a live performance or sound design setting. The LP filter cutoff (already doable), the Resonance, the VCF envelope amount/depth, the ADSR envelope parameters (side note: it would be cool/time saving if it were possible to have the option to force the VCA envelope to be the same as the VCF envelope), the LFO rate and amounts, and the PWM parameters. That's a lot LOL! I also find the keyboard tracking options of 0 or 100% to be bit too extreme. I wish it was adjustable, or at least if there was a 50% option. But I think Andras shared at some point why doing that would be difficult. Anyway, thanks again!
Cheers

The NRPN document has been shared a few times in this thread, by Andras and by me. The more accessible version I was putting together needs updating to include the new feature. The parameters you mentioned remain the same though.

Morten implemented the NRPNs into a Mortrix profile and so I can control all that stuff from my controller.

Yeah, the pitch tracking option is limiting. I’d asked for further options since 2019. Would be good to have a 50% or 1/3 and 2/3 options but there’s something about the maths that makes that difficult.

Oh. That is extremely useful. Thanks!! I use an Electra One Mkii to control my various synth's parameters and should be able to program up the NPRNs for the FI. I was seriously tempted by the Mortrix.

There’s a bit of difficulty in getting the V4 profile into Mortrix as some of the newer FI parameters share NRPN and are bit- masked in the editor. Mortrix profiles cannot currently do that so, at the moment, a few parameters aren’t independently addressable with it.

FYI, the web updater is still set up to deliver the 4.03 update. You'll need to use the FI 4 editor to update to 4.11. I've sent an email to Panda Audio support about this.
What do you see on the updater screen?

Are you saying it says “4.03”?

Or are you saying it says “4.11” but installs 4.03?

If it’s the former, you might simply need to clear your browser’s cache as it’s showing 4.11 for me.

If it’s the latter, that would be a problem and I can report it using a more direct means of communication.

Please let me know which it is.

It’s working as expected (now).

However, it’s not offering the option to install the latest soundset as it should be, which I’ve reported.

Well, I updted my V4 and... oh, this freakin' rocks. 4 hours dpwn the rabbit hole today after a 3 hour rehearsal. I was triggering sounds from a Yamaha MX-49 and from Roland GR-20. Now I really need a real synth.

I did have the firware version not updating to the new 4.11. At Peter's suggestion I cleared the chache in Chrome amd it worked just fine!

Thanks so much for pointing me to the NRPN documentation. I have made considerable progress programming them up in the Electra One. I see what you mean by the shared NRPNs. Not sure the Electra One can handle that either without going deeper into the Lua scripting. Do you happen to know the NRPN and values for the hard sync switch introduced in V4? That would complete my oscillator section.

Here you go.

Has anyone else noticed that with new 4.11 editor the display for the "INTERNAL" settings only show correctly if you click on "EXTERNAL" and back to "INTERNAL"?

I’m not near my pc to be able to test but have forwarded your finding to the team.
This will be fixed soon. Thanks for flagging it up.

Not sure if anyone here uses the Electra One midi controller (Electra One), but I have programmed up a preset for it that provides pretty comprehensive control of the synth engine parameters of the Future Impact. For those who like to turn physical knobs rather than use a mouse this could be a useful tool for dialing in of sounds. I have all my synths controlled from the Electra One. Here is the link to the FI preset Electra One App
