How many times it repeats is what a Delay’s Feedback controls. Usually with Feedback at minimum you get a single repeat, then at max it will often be infinite repeats/oscillation (literal uncontrollable feeding back!). The Delay Feedback Dampening in the Future Impact allows you to push the Feedback without causing uncontrollable oscillation and also helps make the delay repeats more mild with high feedback (it is a low-pass filter in the feedback path, so each repeat gets darker). No I mean how many times it repeats
Are you on Mac? If so, make sure you set up the Midi configuration in the MIDI studio native app and test the connectivity.Just got my VIP and am having a hard time getting the editor to work. I had an old M-Audio Uno MIDI interface in a drawer that I used to connect my VIP to my Mac. The Uno confusingly labels it’s MIDI In as “To MIDI Out,” and it’s MIDI Out as “To MIDI In.” I connected them accordingly but can’t get the editor to talk to the VIP. When I play notes on my bass the signal indicator on the Uno lights up, which makes me think it’s working, though in what capacity I can’t say. Not sure if the VIP does audio to MIDI conversion, but it might make sense since it has to do pitch tracking.
In the Editor software I can select MIDI In and Out that shows up as SE25 1 and SE25 2, or virtual MIDI. No option yields any connectivity. I also swapped the MIDI cables on the VIP to no avail.
I’m sure there’s something obvious I’m missing. Any insights from the community?
Good call. Forgot to mention that I am using a Mac. I'll try that. Are you on Mac? If so, make sure you set up the Midi configuration in the MIDI studio native app and test the connectivity.
Agreed. Attempts to remove confusion that add it are frustrating for sure.I don't get why manufacturers complicate labeling cables where a simple IN and OUT works just fine.
As mentioned, I did try that. What I didn't mention was that the signal indicator on the Uno lit up identically regardless which way I plugged its cables into the VIP.May be worth flipping the cables and judt follow the arrows
This was the result of checking connectivity on the Uno. It shows that the device is online and that it has one in and one out. Not much else to see that I can tell unless I'm missing something.make sure you set up the Midi configuration in the MIDI studio native app and test the connectivity.
Yeah I spent a good long weekend trying to make the UM ONE work w/my mac and VIP.In the FIEditor4 application under MIDI Settings I can assign the FI Input Device to SE25 MIDI1, SE25 MIDI2, or virtual input. The FI Output Device does not list SE25 MIDI2 but has the other two options. The manual indicates that both should be connected. What's curious is that if I use either of the SE 25 MIDI1 or 2 options, if I hit Apply or OK and then reopen the settings window it will have reset to off for both input and output devices. If I select virtual input it will retain that setting.
Also curiously, after resetting my computer the Uno signal indicator light will no longer display when sending a signal through the VIP regardless of how the cables are connected. Part of me thinks this ancient Uno is not compatible with the VIP for some reason, but another part of me thinks that MIDI is even more ancient than the Uno and it should work regardless. I'm a bit at a loss at this point. I may just order another interface to see if that does the trick.

Not sure if you have consulted the manual yet, but it is pretty well put together. Earlier FI versions were pickier about MIDI interfaces, but my understanding is that with the v4 it should work with most. I also took a few times to get it right with my FI v3 years back FWIW, but it's been solid ever since with both the v3 and v4. The v4 does indeed respond to MIDI in (you can play it with a keyboard or other MIDI controller instrument) AND outputs pitch to MIDI as well as CV pitch and gate when triggered from bass or guitar so you can trigger external synths (the CV is faster, though also requires the special breakout cable that Panda MIDI sells).I powered my computer down with the Uno attached, and powered down the VIP. Upon powering everything back up and restarting the Editor application the SE 25 options were replaced with M-Audio Uno MIDI Interface on both the input and output. On top of that the changes actually stuck, and editing works perfectly now. I don't know why two resets were required, but that did the trick. I'll just take the win![]()
Impossible to get hold of one at the moment, otherwise I would have. Two used ones came up for sale the other day and went within minutes, so I missed those.has anyone a/b with the mxr bass synth? anyone made any of the patches on the mxr for the FI>?
In my case that did nothing. It was doing it a second time that yielded results. Still unsure why, but I’m not going to question success.first step, always, turn it off and on
I did, quite thoroughly in fact. No mention of power cycling regarding this issue, let alone two power cycles. Later today I’ll power up the system again and hopefully the changes have stuck. Not sure if you have consulted the manual yet, but it is pretty well put together.
I suspect that is an issue between the Mac and interface, I have had similar things pop up occasionally with my audio/MIDI interface (Steinberg UR44) which is much older than my Mac and it’s usually also fixed with a reboot or two. Actually come to think of it my newest Mac (from last year) has yet to have any issues with the Steinberg which is a win!I did, quite thoroughly in fact. Tell me about it!Unfortunately a lot of folks never RTFM around here!
It is amazing how many times giving the system the "dreaded finger" will save the day and yet we still have to be reminded, each and every time.I powered my computer down with the Uno attached, and powered down the VIP. Back in the olden days, we would “Zap the PRAM, rebuild the Desktop, and trash the preferences.” That cured 98% of computer confusion. It is amazing how many times giving the system the "dreaded finger" will save the day and yet we still have to be reminded, each and every time.![]()
