Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

Just got my new VIP Pedal and updated to 4.5. The autoswitch (being able to play through midi in bass mode) does not seem to work at all. It works in instrument mode synth, but when i switch to bS.A it does not receive midi anymore. Also i noticed that in the 4.5 editor midi is not received properly when the pedal is in bass mode. When i play legato and hold the second note there is no sound. Also pitch bend information not received. Hope I am just too stupid and missed something or I hope this will be fixed in the future. Being able to switch from bass to keyboard on the fly was super handy.
Is autoswitch enabled in the global menu?

When you say the pedal does not receive MIDI when in bass mode and connected to the editor, what do you mean? I presume you mean it doesn’t respond to MIDI note data from an external keyboard. That is true. The onscreen keyboard sends SysEx messages rather than note data; it is for checking sounds, not for actual playing. If you want to play properly via a keyboard, set instrument mode to synth.

You can switch from bass to keyboard when playing normally with a keyboard hooked up directly to the pedal (VA only).

Thanks for your quick reply. Made my day. I had not found that Autoswitch Mode parameter in the manual yet. Seems to work now, except - as written in the addendum - inside the editor. I previously programmed all my patches with the V3.6 editor, and because I want them to work with bass as well as with midi keyboard I used to check them alternating with both instruments in the editor. Need to adjust my workflow now a bit with V4.5.

So many changes from 3.6 to 4.5 it's almost a whole new pedal. that is so cornfusing to my feeble mind, I must say.

But I like it!

I'm still thinking about my gigging setup. I am thinking about changing patches with a TouchOSC app on my iPhone. I also want to send CC (mod wheel) from the same app. I would probably send midi to the FI via a cable.

But then I have to use my hands to use the app, which would be awkward especially for the CC messages. How can I do this do this in a simple way that uses a small foot-controlled expression device, and hopefully still lets me use the touchOSC app for patch changes?

Level Parameter Max Value in V4 pedal - I am trying to understand the relation between Main Mixer VCF LIN Value and max "+" Level value on the pedal. Seems that if level in mixer is 127 then range on pedal is -64/+0, when level in mixer gets lower then positive range increases exponentially, e.g. VCF LIN= 40 -> range -64/+50.
Meaning if I max the level in the editor to 127 I can just reduce it on the pedal. No boost.
So I need to leave some "headroom" in the mixer if I want to be able to increase the volume later on the pedal, right? Can you guys confirm that?

The pedal control always allows the full range of the (editor) parameter to be accessed (i.e. the 0 and 127 in the editor are always available), but it scales it according to where the editor slider is set. So if the slider is maxed at 127, you’ll only get -64 to 0 on the pedal, with each step on the pedal representing 2 steps in the editor (-64 corresponding to 0 in the editor, 0 corresponding to 127 in the editor). If the editor is set at 64 then the pedal will allow -64 to 63 with a 1:1 scaling (-64 corresponding to 0 in the editor, 63 corresponding to 127 in the editor).

Got V4.5 update installed recently and really like it allot. I also got all my MIDI finally working using controllers with HX Stomp and Tonex.and works wonderfully except 2 I can't quite figure out. I set "Sustain" Stomp 1, "VCO transpose Oct Up/Down" Stomp 2 and that is working great. That alone is really nice with Reverb Blocks on HX etc. My issue is when I try to setup "Filter Cutoff" & "Turn Pornamento on/off" to my Midi Commander controller for a Controller Assingn to footswitch. I have FS 4 and 5 of HX Stomp emulated for this on the MIDI Commander Controller(ie works as bypass for HX blocks. I also setup my EXP pedal in hopes of changing Porta Time with it. Maybe it's my MIDI Controller. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Morningstar MC4 Pro: it has both a device and a host USB port.
Sorry, much of this is new to me...

Is this correct:
- I can send MIDI commands to/through the pedal using the device USB port for patch changes etc.
- I can connect an expression pedal to on Omni port for CC.

But I don't understand how I would use the host USB port.

Device port should allow you to connect your phone/tablet. You can then send PC from it to the MC4. In MC4 you need to enable forwarding of messages from USB to DIN ports (easy to do) and then PCs will be passed to the FI. (You could also just send PCs directly from the MC4.)

The omniport can be configured to be an expression port and so you can then set it up to send CC1. (I use a single expression port to control CC1, CC2, CC5, CC74 and CC92 and buttons to select which one is active at any given time. You can even do that from a single switch by having the button scroll through the list of options.)

The host port is there if you ever want to use the MC4 to control another pedal that only has USB MIDI.

Just updated to v4.5 and loving the FM sounds, but ran into something frustrating: when in FM mode, MIDI Thru stops working entirely. My downstream devices stopped responding and I spent way too long troubleshooting before figuring out why.
The addendum mentions that MIDI Triggering isn't available in FM mode, but I didn't expect that to also kill Thru for everything downstream in the chain.
I can work around it with the MC8, but for less flexible devices this might be a bigger problem.

Is this a known issue?

I updated to 4.5 yesterday, no hitches. Then, while still somewhat jet lagged, I started to try programming a setlist. I failed miserably from the start.
Went to bed.
I've decided to integrate the FI on my small gig board, so Setlist is something I would love to use. I was fumbling at first, re-reading the addendum, and finally figured it out. It's actually quite simple, and very useful for me. One of my stumbling blocks might be a bug, so I present it here.
Taken from the addendum:
Programming the Setlist
While in Setlist mode, the Edit wheel is used to set both the sound-engine mode and the program for each step.
Navigate to the step you want to programme using the Program footswitch or an external MIDI controller.
Press the Edit wheel to cycle through the three (IN MY CASE, TWO) available sound-engine modes, indicated by the decimal points:
1. VA with audio input (bS.A, SP.A, Gt.A): no decimal point is lit.
2. VA with MIDI input (Snt, EUI): the second decimal point is lit, and the first decimal point blinks in response to a MIDI Note-On message.
3. FM with audio input (bS.F, SP.F, Gt.F): the first decimal point is lit.

On my FI there was no decimal point in either VA or FM engine. I could tell the engines were changing because I could hear the different sounds, but the audio was the only indicator I had. After some trial and error I have saved the first four steps of my setlist, and I'm ready for rehearsal this Sunday. And I'm a very happy man.
@Andras Szalay have you checked this?

My OS: Windows 11 64bit
My USB to MIDI: Laptop USB -> 2m USB extension cable -> midiBeam 4Control (with BOSS EV-30 Expression Pedal and Hotone FS-1 Ampero Switch) MIDI I/O -> MIDI O/I on FI V4 VIP v4.5.

1. I use midiBeam 4Control to connect the FI v4 VIP v4.5 to my laptop with FI editor V4.5.
2. The FI v4 VIP is ON and in set-list mode. Display showing "01≡"
(I can hear sounds from FI editor keyboard and my own bass when tracking)
3. Now In the FI editor we're in FM mode, example download FM in banks menu.
4. The display now shows "--≡"
5. Play the FI editor keyboard fast back and forth and the pedal get triggered with this behavior:
6. FI v4 VIP display showing "9.8≡" and is turned OFF.
7. Turn FI v4 VIP ON again and repeat FI editor keyboard fast back and forth
8. FI v4 VIP display showing "9.6≡" and is turned OFF.

This behavior might be related to my previous post with FM/VA change and automatic OFF/ON switching.
So the pedal is suddenly turned off and set-list goes down some steps, so from 01 to 9.8 or 9.6 and 9.2 et.

Also, It seems we still have the two MIDI devices on same OS like a sound-card with MIDI compatibility.

FI editor V4.5 crash and need to re-install:
There is still "the problem" with other MIDI capable soundcards, like my Roland Quad-Capture.
Since I tried it and I can still get the FI editor v4.5 to crash right after i also connect my soundcard.
So I need to completely uninstall and install again to get FI editor to work. Same exact issue I had on FI editor v4,12 and I believe this might be a known limitation.

Would just be really nice if it would play nice with other sound cards not in use with the FI editor, but on same OS :)

Will there be a future CC64 (Sustain) support in FM mode / set-list FM mode?

My setup: midiBeam 4Control (with BOSS EV-30 Expression Pedal and Hotone FS-1 Ampero Switch) MIDI I/O -> MIDI O/I on FI V4 VIP v4.5.
The 2 button foot-switch works great in VA mode with CC67 (Program Down on FI) and CC64 (Sustain).

In the "FI_V4.5_Addendum07.pdf" the MIDI commands are shown:
CC 1
CC 7
CC 11
CC 67
CC 88
CC 69
CC 74

So missing CC64 (Sustain).

Any chance of that working in a future FW version for FM like in VA?
This was addressed earlier that space was packed at release. An update that addresses this is already underway.

Update: Yeah 2 hours testing VA "07≡" and then switch to FM "0.8≡" and just testing 20 seconds and it switched back to "07≡" by itself. This is probably FI editor related, at least the data path is almost exclusive Panda Audio for debugging. Now back to Music and new sounds :)
How are you changing the patch? If you’re doing it via the encoder then what you are doing is changing what is programmed to the step. If you don’t save it then after 20 seconds it reverts to the stored patch/engine. This is documented under “programming setlist” in the addendum.

Just updated to version 4.5. Im trying to reorder patches for upcoming gigs in the editor. Is there not a way to mix and match the fm and va files?
I believe you cannot in the editor. They are 2 seperate entities but you can arrange to coincide so when in setlist mode goes like fav patch on VA is 12 set your fav from FM to 1.2 get what im saying. Tech you could use your foot to switch between VA and FM by "stomping" the edit dial but is better if you start using midi commander and program change. Its tough to grapple but is pretty simple one you "get it" lol cheers 🍻

Hi, thanks for the follow up :)

The FI VIP v4 is new with stock v4.12 and then updated to v4.5 with "FI_V4.5_Addendum07.pdf". So following page 2 Installation, Step-by-Step Installation, page 3 Getting Started with V4.5.

This is only the pedal FI VIP only, so not "FI editor".

This is pedal FI VIP and PC (OS: windows) "FI editor".

So "Patches" are the 99 VA and 99 FM, but technically also the 99 set-lists, correct?
I'm not sure what changing Patches via the encoder means.

These documented steps are in every case by pressing the PROGRAM footswitch, so changing the patch from "07≡" to "0.8≡".
But during the control of the "FI editor" I can only see "--≡", but I know I only press the one time and make sure to change to the FI editor FM GUI.

If using the FI via the editor, don’t use the program footswitch.

The editor does not have always-active 2-way communication with the pedal.

If you want to browse the contents of the pedal, use the Manager and press “download from FI”. This displays what is in the currently-active engine (VA or FM). Then use the tiles within the Manager view to audition patches.

Currently setlist programming and playback is only possible on the pedal itself. Setlist programming in the editor is something on the list for a future update.
