I believe you cannot in the editor. They are 2 seperate entities but you can arrange to coincide so when in setlist mode goes like fav patch on VA is 12 set your fav from FM to 1.2 get what im saying. Tech you could use your foot to switch between VA and FM by "stomping" the edit dial but is better if you start using midi commander and program change. Its tough to grapple but is pretty simple one you "get it" lol cheers

If using the FI via the editor, don’t use the program footswitch.

The editor does not have always-active 2-way communication with the pedal.

If you want to browse the contents of the pedal, use the Manager and press “download from FI”. This displays what is in the currently-active engine (VA or FM). Then use the tiles within the Manager view to audition patches.

Currently setlist programming and playback is only possible on the pedal itself. Setlist programming in the editor is something on the list for a future update.

But what I saw is that it jumps out of FM mode to VA mode.

Changing from VA to FM turns the pedal ON.

I saw the pedal change from FM to VA and go step back in patch number when playing the FI editor piano keys.

Would just be strange if I'm the only one having all these things.

I haven't touched the FI editor in a week, so will look into more testing now.

OH and the 20s is really just how fast is bugs out playing the actual FI editor piano keys, my guess it's in FM mode a few minutes.
But it's really random and you can hear the pedal clicking from FM to VA mode, IIRC.

If you want to do this (setlist programming) via the editor you kind of can at the moment but it’s a bit of a workaround.

Reset the setlist to default via the pedal’s “ini” menu.

Put the pedal in VA mode (either via the editor or pedal).

Press “Download to FI”. Rearrange the VA patches into which of the 99 slots you want them to appear. Then press “upload to FI”.

Switch to FM and repeat the above process.

Obviously you will out your desired VA and FM patches in different slots from each other. Make a note of which slots you want the pedal to play a VA patch and which to play an FM one.

Now put the pedal in Setlist mode and go to each step and set whether it should be VA or FM by pressing the encoder (edit dial).

By default, setlist 1-50 is VA, 51-99 FM.

There might be a bug between editor and setlist mode. I haven’t checked this as currently the editor isn’t really designed to work in setlist mode.

Again I ask, how are you changing patches. I understand you are connected to the editor but running the pedal in setlist mode. Playing the editor keys is probably reverting to reading the non-setlist mode patch order, hence why you are experiencing odd behaviour.

@Andras Szalay I cannot check if FM mode is forcing the pedal ON when using setlist until later next week.

@Andras Szalay Thanks for all your hard work on the amazing pedal! Is there a possibility for a Midi CC that could turn External Midi on and off? This would make it much easier to send out notes without having to program each patch individually.

So, I need to be able to quickly select an FI program from a list of program names. Is that possible with the MC4?
With only 4 buttons, how can I quickly select and load from a list of say, 30 programs?

You could easily set up something which uses a scroll counter limited to those 30 programs with various button actions to move through it in 1s or 10s to cue it and then another action to load it. It’s very powerful.

The manual goes in-depth in the usage of the editor. Do you have any specific questions?

One source of info is an online guy called “the bass negus”. He rambles a lot and I don’t know how good he really is, but he has a few YouTube videos where he builds some simple patches on the FI from scratch. Might help jump start you.

I saw that. I don't think he's very good. One of his videos showed him doing some stuff with the editor on screen, but there was nothing changing on the editor.

Zack rizer made a good video about the C4, but his video on the fi only demoed the sounds. Most of the videos only demo the sounds, and not for 4.5 either.

Got a chance to test drive the V4.5 on a gig and had folks looking for the synth when I whipped out Chameleon, the players loved it. I had already created my own signature sound on the Spectrum and will alternate them in the future probably the FI for the bass line and my own creation for the bass solo.

Like you I would absolutely love to see videos on the Future Impact but for now take your own advice and take the time to understand the manual, it is excellent but can be tedious for those of us that are a bit ADHD or lack patience at times (pointing the finger at myself here, not you trust me) but IME worth the effort, and to learn more about the mechanics of electronic music sound creation aka synthesizers. It's a journey well taken.

Personally I found it really helpful to delve into modular synthesis to better understand the how tools on the C4 and FI function and interact. Once I had that understanding it was much easier to apply that knowledge to synth pedals and my other synths. I like the way Sarah Belle Reid approaches these subjects step by baby step and for a deeper dive Omri Cohen is excellent.

The communication code has been made public so anything that can send MIDI CCs can work. However, most may not be sophisticated enough to save patches.

Also suggest giving the Electra One a look, especially if you are comfortable with a little Lua coding. There is a preset I wrote for the 4.1? firmware, and I also wrote a DX7 editor that might be useful. FWIW.
