Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

Yeah, just as I did before the update, I send midi note data using a VA patch with the external midi on, pitch bend set correctly, and now when playing, any note I play is accompanied by a C1 note. I have been using it for months in this fashion without this happening. I can play drum beats using a drum rack, piano chords using Expressive Chords into a keyboard sound; Ableton's various synths; all functioned as intended. Now, there is this extra note data.
Try it using speed tracking priority mode and see if the problem persists. I have my suspicions that this may be the source of the problem.

If that doesn’t solve it. Check the portamento setting. Is it on? If so, is it set to “legato? I’m trying to hone in on a couple of places that have had bugs which have now been fixed.

I'll try that now. I'm using the "OrientalOrch" patch, and all I did was turn on the external midi out and adjust pitch bend.

You'd be better served just going through that FM patch collection that I and others have pasted a link to in this thread in the previous pages. Somebody went through thousands of patches, threw out the duplicates, and organized them. There are heaps, with plenty of bass sounds.
I kinda did this already, so here it is in more detail, sorry for the long post...

dexed 1.0.1
dexed: C:\Program Files\Dexed\Dexed.exe
CART > SHOW DIR > C:\Users\....\AppData\Roaming\DigitalSuburban\Dexed
\Cartridges\Dexed_01.syx

dexed comes with a DX7 program compilation: Jean-Marc Desprez (author of SynprezFM)
\Cartridges\SynprezFM\SynprezFM_01.syx
...
\Cartridges\SynprezFM\SynprezFM_32.syx

SynprezFM info (2024/07/03):
"The 1024 patches that I selected were available as bundles on the internet. They represented more than 22000 patches that I filtered to keep just 32 sysex of 32 patches."

BlackWinny from kvraudio did a great DX7 compilation:
Dexed_cart version 1.0 by BlackWinny, 2015/01/04 (YYYY/MM/DD)

\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\dir *.syx
That's 3838.syx files, so that's 122816 patches in 74 folders!

If I search "bass" only it's about 120 .syx files so that's 3840 patches.
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation>dir *bass*.syx /B /S

66 .syx files are in the folder:
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\!Instruments\Plucked\Bass

The rest:
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\!Instruments\Misc\stg choir bass.syx
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\!Instruments\Woodwind\OBOEBASS.SYX
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\!Unsorted\Chris Dodunski\Bass2.syx
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\!Unsorted\dx7-patches\BASS1.SYX
...
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\!Unsorted\dx7-patches\BASS14.SYX
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\!Unsorted\dx7-patches\WWBASSON.SYX
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\!Unsorted\dx7zicweb\BASSEA.SYX
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\!Unsorted\dx7zicweb\BASSICS.SYX
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\!Unsorted\Tim Garrett\BASSA.SYX
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\Godric\bass1.syx
...
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\Godric\bass6.syx
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\Jeff Saxe\BASS1.SYX
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\Jeff Saxe\BASS3.SYX
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\Jezreel\BASS--01.SYX
...
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\Jezreel\BASS--21.SYX
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\LiVeMuSiC Hollywood Collection\BASS1.SYX
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\LiVeMuSiC Hollywood Collection\BASS2.SYX
\Cartridges\BlackWinny_compilation\LiVeMuSiC Hollywood Collection\BASSMAN.SYX

But the .syx are not human readable, MIDI System Exclusive (SysEx) and contain 32 patches and they could have any org. prog. name and be any algorithm.
Maybe a SysEx file reader could help and I found this:
So far only found MIDI transfer tools and this SysEx File Verification Utility - v1.8 SysEx File Verification Utility, but it's browser based and doesn't display patch names or algos.

This requires some organizing and I only need real Synth Bass, so not any kind of bass emulation like plucked, fretless etc.

My strategy was going forward to organize these by Bass and algorithms, but I don't see an easy way.

If anyone has gone through these and selected ones that have actual synth bass (folders at least), then I'm really all ears :)

Also you load the 32 patch .syx file into dexed and you can just export the same 32 patch .syx file out separately.
Technically you can do the same and copy the .syx file from it's Cartridge folder and open it directly in FI editor.

The FI V4 has 99 patches and so it could be 10 patches of each algorithm with useful Synth Bass sounds.
I could fast skip 10 for sound examples and hunt specifics within these 10.
My band (std. format rock band 4 piece: 2xguitar, bass, drums) creates org. music and both guitars have synth guitar effects.

I'm just starting to look into this, so always trying to keep as much info as I need and hope it helps others.

I download the Dexed 1.0 and gone through a good handful of the .SYX on the FI. Its amazing how many options us V4 and VIP owners get to audition and save. The FI really is King...And deserves to be being the first with the Akai Unibass which was ahead of its time back then soo props to Andras and the team. Ive wanted one since V1 but my broke ass couldn't afford one till V4 came out and lucky cause I got to get the 4.5 update. Cheers 🍻

download as many sxy sets as you want and load into Dexed - demo them on there first. Ones you like write down name and cartridge…

Once you have a list you like open in exitor and drag onto the slot you want too.

Or open the cartridge in the manager browser, either click files in the pane to aufion and drag likes ones onto the tiles, rinse, repeat then save when you have 99. Or dump a whole cartridge to the tiles, auction and delete the ones you don’t like. Repeat until you’ve filled 99 then save.

Not sure what autocorrect has against the word “audition”.

@golem What I did was within dexed, inside the browser window, I saved patches that I liked to an already existing sysex file that I copied, and replaced all the patches inside it this way. Filled it up, then loaded it into FIEditor and copied them over, rather than having to do that for each individual patch from different sysex files.

Sure, when you're in dexed CART menu with folders and patches, then it's easy to drag&drop into a dummy .syx file you copied from any existing. While in dexed it does it in memmory, so you can exit out of CART mode to preview it and dexed remmembers the just modified patch until you exit without saving it.
Also \Cartridges\Dexed_01.syx is coped/based on one of \Cartridges\SynprezFM\SynprezFM_0?.syx, I blieve, there is a hint in the lower right of the window where it shows "based on".

I have been looking into making a program that can read the .syx file and help in sorting them. From reading up on the dexed Github it's basded on other project and there are several forks (dexed on Teensy and Raspberry Pi), where some relevant code has shown up. I wouldn't have time for that now, but it's possible. Going through 120000 patches seems more like and engineering job ... lol. So I'm still looking for an .syx reader/editor that can work commandline or in software...

Anyway... if there is a long list of good Synth bass to start with, it could help others, but I guess we all have the previlige of going through them :)
I mean how lucky are we to have luxury problem of to much ... lol

Regarding synth Bass: I think single carrier algo's like 16/17/18 are not usefull for synth bass, since you need a strong fundamental or sub low-en carrier. I have gone through about 50 Stock FI V4 FM patches and there have so far been 10 usefull and 30 not so much.

But just the fact, that going through the next SynprezFM sets gave me a really good one, is proof postitve of the vast possibilities this gets us....

Thank you so much for this ...

Sorry to interrupt the Dexed/FM discussion, but I just wanted to share a pic of my updated board. I initially put my compressor before the FI but now prefer it after. I managed to put together a program set list (after some trial and error) and my FI pedal will make its debut at a gig Friday. For now the FI has displaced my MXR bass synth. Friday will be a test run.

Sorry to keep derailing...

I had settled the MC4 Pro for the FI, but now I'm thinking about adding an ML-10X.

Will the MC4 Pro work well to control both? Or do I need to go bigger?
It’ll work just fine. The only considerations are what you want to be able to do with it and whether more buttons on a single page would help you achieve that. Also, do you need multiple expression pedals active at a single time or are you happy to use one and change what it controls on the fly?

FWIW, I started on a used MC6, bought the MC8 when it came out a few weeks later. Then got the MC6 Pro and haven’t really felt like I’m missing much. I have 4 omniports but only use 1. Have thought maybe the 4 Pro would be enough and it’s nice and compact but with a bigger screen than the 6 Pro.

Personally I’d start small. If it’s not enough, you could return it and go for the 6 Pro or 8 Pro.

Oh, they would let me trade up without my losing money? That would be great!
I only need one expression pedal for now.
Would I be able to toggle individual loops on the ML10X?

If you buy online, you have a statutory right to return within 14 without needing a reason, at least that’s how it is where I live. Standard distance selling laws.

Out of curiosity, were you not satisfied with some of the bass synth sounds in the default patches? I went through some of the collection and made a custom bank. You're welcome to go through it and see if it has anything. There are some good bass synth sounds in there. Some of them are from the default collection, though, so I'm not sure which I kept and which are new. EDIT: Oh, the default patches have "FI" in the patch name. Yeah, there are some bass synth sounds in there for you to check out.

One man’s useful is it

i think that one man’s killer synth bass sound may very well be someone else’s pan pipe cheese (1.1 I’m looking at you)

Interestingly I’m finding the va side tracks and plays so much better than the fm side so spending my time there, I do want to find a good double bass like sound like Quatschmacher shared prior to release.
Still working on playing cleanly, some of thf fm stuff is giving me a click/pop at the start of the note still.
