So... I got the SansAmp PBDDI in today and all I've got to say is I am so glad I didn't give up on the Rat Tail.
It seemed no matter how much I twiddled the knobs on the RT, I could not get the sound that was in my head, at home or at practice with the rig.
Plugged the PBDDI in to test out, Instant wow factor.
Turned on RT, Jizz'm in my pants!
And the lesson of the day?
Use a good preamp!

I have both the Rusty and BDPG on my board but the Rusty is probably due to be sold shortly. They both do their own thing and are the best dirty preamp pedals on the market in my opinion. While the clank of the Rusty Box is a killer sound, the BDPG just punches the lower frequencies better and plays so well with other pedals.
Why do I need to sell the RB? I logged on to Prymaxe a couple of days ago and saw a stamped Dark Driving for sale
Been thinking about grabbing a Stache for weeks but couldn't pass up the chance to get a DD at the front of my pedal chain....

I hate you for making me aware of this. Somebody please buy them so I don't. Right now I'm holding on for dear life to the fact that they're not hand-painted as a reason to not buy one, but damn that new logo looks sharp.
Ryan, do the new hand-painted DDs have the same image as the old ones? And while I'm at the question game; was there a circuit that inspired the BDPG? Also, what feature does the expression on Liam Wilson's wah-enclosure GS control? Could you help me to understand where babies come from? And why is the sky blue?

I know that Nick from Circa Survive also uses a BDDI with a Vintage Rat, and I can definitely get pretty close to that tone with my 2 pedals. Be sure to make use of the blend knob on the BDDI so it doesn't completely take over your tone, since it scoops mids, i have my amp eq's mids cranked to 3oclock atleast
i received my very first Fuzzrocious pedals and they are even better than I imagined! How did I ever play without a BDPG? I may call it "The Secret Weapon" or maybe it should just be renamed "Viagra" because honestly it makes me hard and my tone has never been this strong!
And I also received an etched Grey Stache with a 2nd sustain setting for melting faces! simply beautiful and just what the doctor ordered!
I believe it is GS #071 and BDPG #110.

I had no idea Ryan wasn't keen on the BDDI.
It has given my solid state amp some needed warmth and low end. I have the blend around 2:00 and really dig the mids.
I actually own a Rusty Box! In fact, its the reason I chose to try out the PBDDI! I tried to LOVE the RB, I really did, we just didn't click
I guess it just didn't cut it for what I needed it.

The same one I mentioned in this thread earlier, the opening riff to Old Skin by Young Widows. I may not have the tone down completely, but I am closer than I ever was with the Rusty Box / Rat Tail Combo...

I hear you. I know that the Rusty Box is practically the preamp off a Traynor amp, but I just wasn't able to make it work with my band. I am NOT hating on solid state sound, My tone was just too "sterile". Not what I thought I needed.
I know that the BDDI isn't for everyone. I honestly didn't expect much from it but it turned out it was what I needed
No need to explain. If thats the sound you like, roll with it. It doesn't matter who doesn't like the BDDI. I actually just sold my VT bass and now I only use the Rusty. That's the cool part, we get to choose our own sounds. But if you like the BDDI I think you'd love the VT. I'm sure you've heard that by now though. Nick Thieneman's sound is great, but if you like the RAT sound you need to check out "Goat" from The Jesus Lizard. Old Wounds is great, but Then come Dudley is just off the hook. Amped-you're not gonna get that exact tone unless you biamp, my man. He has that nasty RAT growl along with a dry bass tone. Blending won't cut it either as it sucks the dirt out of your tone.
The reason I don't dig the bddi is the sterility of it, midscoop, yucky blend, and not enough dirt/drive when using a solid state. To each his own!
