G. Gould Basses @ Rocket Music!

A while back, I approached @GeoffGould about the possibility of him making a bass with more traditional styling. I was dreaming of a Fender-shaped object with his fabulous graphite neck and a Bartolini 8S pickup. Geoff was open to the idea, and I'm thrilled to say that the first of two such basses has been completed and is on the way to Rocket!

I've been doing my best to ignore the growing pile of instruments that have arrived in the past couple months.

Here's one that arrived from @GeoffGould recently, and I just got it posted to my website. I'm motivated now to work through the rest of my backlog which includes a couple of Suhr P basses, a G&L LB-100 and a bunch of Suhr and Anderson guitars.

This new GGi5 is really something. I was a serious fanboy of Oteil Burbridge back in the day (and still am). The Aquarium Rescue Unit really blew up my skirt. Geoff Gould's Blue/Green color schemes always make me think of Oteil and his Modulus 6-string... and they always make me want to own one. One of these days!

Now that Status Graphite has ceased production of its composite construction basses (Stealth, Streamline), are there any companies still producing neck-through/unibody headless basses with fully composite construction?

Earlier this year, my dream bass (a five-string wide-spaced unlined fretless Steinberger XL-2A, SN 9343) was sold by HeadlessUSA to some lucky collector for the tidy sum of $15,000 USD.

I was crushed. That amazing instrument will probably spend the rest of its life sitting in a glass case, or worse yet, in a closet or a storage facility...

iirc, geoff mentioned that it'd be rather cost-prohibitive to make a neck-thru ggi-5. probably talking about near-to-over $10k. maybe if enough players showed true interest in having them built, then geoff and crew would consider that option.

it would be interesting to see how many tbx neck-thru's joe perman has created since modulus came back online 10+ years ago...

I've got another P in the works with @GeoffGould, and it looks like it's starting to come together!

Deep Blue Metallic with an EMG Geezer Butler pickup is all I recall for certain for the specs. I want to say it'll get a white pearloid pickguard, a graphite neck with a phenolic board and passive electronics (Volume/Tone). Don't quote me on any of that, though. I've toyed with the idea of getting one of Geoff's new hybrid necks put on one of these P's. That's a Maple-on-the-outside & graphite-on-the-inside sort of neck that outwardly looks like a traditional wood neck but sounds like a graphite neck.

I'm also sorely tempted to put a Bartolini 8S with a Bartolini buffer preamp in one of these P's every time I order one. I don't want any EQ, necessarily, just the extra clarity that would result from the lower output impedance of a preamp. One of these days! Probably whenever the time comes for me to order the one that will be for me. Or I'd be happy to do it for you, too, if you're into doing a special order sometime!

And now @GeoffGould talked me into ordering a P with a Hybrid neck. Hahaha, not that it took much arm twisting.

Vintage Mary Kay White, Tort guard, Pau Ferro board, passive electronics. The neck and body are already ready in raw form, so shooting some paint on the body will be the long pole in the tent. It shouldn't take long, maybe it'll still be cold outside when it arrives in Q1 or Q2 of 2026.

FWIW - the Hybrid neck is a bit less expensive than the usual graphite neck. I don't have all the pricing details yet, but I just wanted to mention that it'll have a slightly nicer price. Whatever that works out to be.

Hubba hubba!! Here's the finished Deep Blue Metallic P on @GeoffGould's bench. Look for that one to arrive here at Rocket possibly before the end of the year, or perhaps early January.

Note the large cloverleaf tuners. Those are not the default tuner choice for this P model, but I'll do that upgrade every time just to make it looks right to my eyes.

I can't wait to play this one!

Geoff says he might be able to make a lefty GGi5 with a hybrid neck... but it would be expensive and take a long time. Sorry to rain on that parade!

This GGi5-Studio3 is in the home stretch on Geoff's bench, so it should arrive at Rocket sometime soon.

The "Studio" is a fairly recent development. It combines 3 EMG E5 slim soapboar pickups with an onboard 3-channel mixer that allows you to dial in the exact blend of the three pickups that you want.

The specs and price are TBD, I just need to grab some info from Geoff before I call those details firm. But I'm too anxious to share the progress photos to wait for details like what it is and what it costs.

This is an early shot of the body before the electronics and neck were assembled with it.

And here's the completed bass waiting to be strung up on Geoff's bench.

I hesitate to share a link to the item on my website since I've yet to nail down the specs and price, but this listing will get updated just as soon as I have all the info. $5k is a guess, and it should be in that neighborhood depending on the cost of the quilted maple top.
