it's geoff's earlier GGI5 that had the emg b30 3-band eq instead of today's version which has the emg bts 2-band preamp.

Thanks for the quick response, I see. I'm a believer of Gould's stance on "no mid fits better" so happy with mine.

The picture shows quite a pristine instrument so probably a closet queen, #1102...what year that would make it? mmmhh

she does look clean. not sure on the exact year but i'd assume around late '00's.

having a mid knob can be 'funny'. i've always gone with 3-band eq's but, lately, i've been using 2-band eq's onboard (sadowsky pre's and aguilar obp-2's) and, honestly, am not missing having a mid-controller.

I have the three band with sweepable mids in my ggi6. I boost the mids, sweep until it sounds lousy and then cut the mids. It works very well for me using it in that way.

That is a very pretty ggi5. The top is similar to mine.

that's super fat I got the toasted pine one from Corner Music a couple weeks ago. I put these black nylon Labella strings on it and while they are slightly too lightweight I have bigger issues getting my playing back into some kind of shape. I have been retracking basslines on songs I made with keyboards ( I have only had keyboards for a while) and even though I cant really play any more I have been really struck by how nice the 5 string format is. After I took it to a local tech he got everything setup really well. When I got the instrument back from him he was raving about it, he had never worked on a composite bass before. He was really impressed by how regular the fretboard is. The intonation is pretty perfect and I didn't grow up expecting precision like that.

Its crazy how good a bass it is. The only thing I would ask for would be the option to do this graded scale length thing I have seen on some modern basses where the bridge is actually one little mini bridge per string so the B string for example can have a ridiculous scale length and the strings have successively shorter scale length as they go up. I feel like this is basically the only thing I would want to customize, but really, once I get some form back I will stop thinking about things like that, by my unfrozen caveman frame of reference its more than I could have ever imagined as a kid playing a good G&L bass back then.

The discussion about strings has been thought provoking.On one level, I'm agnostic about strings, and feel it's a personal choice. Whatever suits your style is what's right for me. Yes, GHS manufactures the string I use (and used at Modulus before 1995. But getting them has not been easy, especially in the last couple of years. I have used the contact core strings because I've felt the fundamental has been truer, and many players tell me they like them. I certainly don't want to make the basses sound bad. Yes, if there's too much of the bare core in front of the bridge saddle, overtones can be an issue. We have had it shortened in recent years, but it may not be enough for some. Many years ago, we had a Bass Player review of a Modulus thru-body BASSSTAR that was having trouble, until we put in the contact core on the B-string. Clearly in that case, it was helpful. It may not match all playing styles, I doubt anything could. I continue to enjoy reading about the different strings that help players achieve their own style and voice. Thanks for letting me share here.

Thanks for discussing Geoff! I personally love the blended contact core signature strings. I've tried other brands that I use on other basses but the low b and even the open E string sound more clear/tight compared to my usual suspects of strings. I generally don't use the low B above the 15th fret so the "warble" doesn't bother me.

Hey all, I have a question about Gould 6ers. Is there a set string spacing that they normal have? I have pretty small hands but even still I'd like a 6er with at least 17mm spacing.

Mine is 17.5mm, same as the five string. I personally find it a lot comfier to play that 19mm spacing. For the record, I am a tall person with pretty big hands.

I watched yesterday, this is cool but I wonder why the neck is not of your standard carbon one?

I know I inquired about a 5 strings 34 inch that you can do...still giving it some thoughts, also would love to see the short scale (30) or shorter scale (32?) treatment on a 5 strings with the graphite neck that I came to fall in love with

But great to see you exploring new model!

I'm just a designer trying to solve different problems. The cost to make just one graphite neck is huge. Maybe if people want it, we'll see if we can do it in full graphite. But, this is a pretty good bass as is!

every neck is different, but I always try to keep it as slim as possible, without letting the truss rod come out!

And us Gould owners certainly appreciate that! The slim profile is one of the main selling points that brought me over from post-Gould era Modulus basses which have chunkier necks.

Don't get my comment the wrong way, I'm super happy to see you're exploring new design and concepts, entering the short scale game is cool too and it sounds really good at it is now.

I just became a sucker for your necks which I believe is really the magic sauce.

Actually I'll be getting soon a Deep Space One! Can't wait to spend time with that oddball!
