Maybe heel-accessed ones have the rod going the same way, just reversed due to position? Just from a practical standpoint, the heel makes more sense to me.

It's possible that they use a different style of truss rod for this and I know there are very strong opinions among luthiers about different styles of truss rods.

Yeah, and for composite ones, I wonder if it even matters, since most of the strength is in the neck itself. Like I said, the headstock area is a total pain when at shows.

I can't imagine ever needing to adjust it at a show, before one maybe I guess if you travel a ton. The whole point of a graphite neck is not having to change it unless you swap to different type of string.

I'm sorry about the truss rod. I'm not really sold on it either way. I kind of don't like the ones I see with the adjustment on the body end, since it affects the placement of the neck pickup, but like I said, I'm not that married to it. Why do we have one? Our main US customer is in Arizona, which is a relatively extreme geographical location, and sometimes even the most seasoned fingerboards shrink a little down there. We figure if we can build a bass to withstand Arizona, it should be OK just about anywhere!

Ahhhh, okay, well as far as the pickup placement goes, that makes more sense. I simply travel a lot, and even though composite necks obviously need much less adjustment, if any, there are enough times when it's not convenient to take upwards of ten minutes or more just to get the neck changed. I don't understand, especially now that you mentioned the pickup issue, why everyone doesn't just utilize the adjustment wheel, nicely tucked right under the neck joint (like Sadowsky, MusicMan, etc). I don't see how that could interfere at all with pickup placement.
Honestly the headstock adjustment is easy enough to get at for me. The cover plate could be a little more aesthetically pleasing though.
The opening at the base of the neck on the later modulus necks seem to be prone to damage from the allen key. A cover plate like on the genesis and the newer TBX models would be ideal.
Wheel adjustment would be nice but may be limited to certain type/brand/length truss rods that may not fit one of Geoff's neck properly and then some re-tooling of the neck may be required.
