I had it re-painted a greyish beige and had the pickguard taken off and jack re-routed through side. It's just as sweet as it can be! >:)

Well, I don't have it yet, and I don't care about getting a club number, but this here thingy got shipped to me today. Even though technically it's not a custom bass, I'm getting exactly what I want as far as looks, string spacing, electronics, neck size, etc. Well, other than black hardware which I guess G&L doesn't offer, but that's not too big of a deal. Especially great for the price, and the fact that it only took a month from the initial deposit (can't say that about any other custom I've ordered). Hopefully it lives up to my expectations. :)

All right, I am ready for my number. Got this one off e-bay delivered to my hotel. Very nearly mint, but not quite - tarnish on metal parts, some pick marks on the front. The backside is immaculate. The strings a re old and gunky, and there is some stuff on the front that I need to clean out as well. I got a Dunlop cleaning kit on GC clearance, an allen wrench set at a hardware store, Rotosound strings, a tuner (for a friend) a patch cable, and, I have my trusty Leatherman with me. Tomorrow: Hotel room Bass Maintenance 101.

Thanks Stuggi, päinvastoin... On the contrary, I am in San Francisco with this bass, returning to my homeland Finland next week, hoping to have the bass intact all the way... I got a gigbag for it, need to contact the airline if I can take it as carry-on. The case is a flimsy aftermarket one you see. (Unless I am mistaken and early G & L cases were that way.)

Haha, yesterday I went for a morning run on the streets along the Bay. Sunny or sightly overcast, nice views. In the afternoon it started to rain. Wife calls me she had skied 26 km. For exercise, I would rather be with her... But, then I would not have my first Wunkay.

I cleaned the bass, changed new Rotosounds on it, and surprisingly, it was in tune, well intonated, nicely set up without touching a screw. From the G&L Discussion page, it turns out that the case is in fact a G&L case for a SB-1 or SB-2 Bass. Go figure.

Here is my new to me L-1000. It is a 1981 - it has a poplar body and a maple neck. I bought it with a pretty good clear refinish job on what was originally probably green or blue judging by the traces of color in the electronics cavity and neck pocket. The poplar body naked really didn’t have a nice grain and did have a couple of dark areas so I had it repainted a color similar to fender’s arctic white. It was refinished anyway so now I have a great playing, sounding bass and pretty darn good looking bass now.

I don't think the knobs are original, I did have the jack replaced and the little red thing on the switch isn't original either.
But I'm loving it.
