Mike, if that isn't you or that isn't your bass then it won't be getting you a club number.![]()

Grog with the London metal band Die So Fluid playing an L-2000.
Well, its certainly not me, but maybe Grog (aka Lady G) should get an honorary Club #.![]()
early 80's sb1
How about an honorary Club membership for Wanda Ortiz of Iron Maidens? She is a G&L Featured Artist.
She has:
> blue sparkle SB-2
> black SB-2
> black JB-2
> custom burst L-2000
Hello G&L owners. I posted this question in the "Pickups and Electronics" section, and haven't gotten any answers. Figured I'd post it here and try and get an answer. I think, by the end of the post, I answer my own question, but I wanted to make sure.
Here's the OP:
Hey, just wanted to post a quick question. I found a used G&L ASAT in a local shop, and I'm falling in love with it.
However, in messing with the controls and getting a feel for it, I've found that it tends to clip when I have one of the toggle switches in certain positions (the toggle above the knob that is closest to the input jack, if that helps...it clips in every position except when the toggle is towards the input jack. I'm describing this because I have no idea what the toggles do). If I turn the volume down it doesn't clip, but I've never had a bass (active or passive) that clipped when the volume was turned up to the max.
I just wanted to make sure that this wasn't a problem with the electronics - does this bass just have a really hot signal from the pickups to the controls?
Also, if anybody can explain what all the controls do, that would be awesome. I can get the serial # next time I check it out if that helps.
EDIT: To try and get some clearer information, this is my question:
If I am playing the bass and looking down at the controls, from left to right, what are they?
This is my guess so far:
Left Knob - Master Volume
Left Toggle - Pickup selection (neck/both/bridge)
Middle Knob - treble boost
Middle Toggle - series/parallel (not sure which setting is which)
Right Knob - bass boost
Right Toggle - Tri-Tone (active with highs/active/passive)
Am I right about all of that?
It would explain why it doesn't clip when the right toggle is in the passive setting. However...why would I want a bass that distorts when the active electronics are on?
I want this bass to be awesome, and I'm just trying to get some answers that put my worries to rest.
It's here! I got my new SB-1. Redburst over swamp ash with black pg and maple board. I need to take better pictures outside in the daylight. These don't do justice to the burst finish and the grain in the maple board.
