How does the modded 1505 compare to the 2500?
kitsapbass-this 1505 is a bit fatter sounding, less pronounced mids (than a 2500). Still cuts though very well in a rock band setting though. First night I gigged it my guitar player said he actually preferred the 1505. I like them both!

Hi Danielle. Your bass is almost exactly like mine was before I did some modifications. The only difference is that you have a gold tag that is on the backplate of your bass. I bought my bass used in 91', but it did not have one of those gold G&L stickers. My SB-1 is a 1986. What year is yours?
The bass player for the Tragically Hip used a sunburst SB-1 like yours, but I think his is a 91'.
I would like everyone to know that I finally found something that would clean and polish my machine heads: Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish.

Now tell your drummer to get a front head on that kick drum....
Thats actually where the floor looks pretty bad, in the other rooms, the grain looks absolutely incredible, i wish i could use it for a bass. 250 year old walnut floors.

Been a while since I dropped in. I started with a 1981 L2000eFL I bought new in 1981, when I was on the road and found one hanging in a music store down the road from the venue we were playing.
I used that bass exclusively for many years after that. I added a fretted L2000 not too long after that, then an L1000, etc;etc.
I've had many since, at one point I had 12; and have had every model they've made at one point.
Down to four right now:
1980 L1000, tobaccoburst mahogany, ebony board; big, thick, warm mutha; recently refretted as I did in fact play the frets out from under her...
1981 L1000, CAR, maple board; brightest, snappiest L1000 I've had
1983 SB1, seafoam green, maple body, maple neck; "best 51PRI ever"
1983 SB2, used to be white, maple body, maple neck; nasty JJ tone.

Hey Chef, good to see you. That '80 Wunkay is the nicest piece of hog I've seen on an instrument.

The SB2-JJ is very in the Jazz Bass sound family; bright, snappy, grindy. The maple body and maple neck definately accentuate these qualities.
Really, it's not at all like the L2000's MFD humbuckers; which "are kinda like an Eden WT series amp:'' beefy, kinda woolly, thick, punchy.

This makes perfect sense looking at the pickup placement. I've always been interested in G&Ls (I think they have one of the best cherry sunbursts in the biz) Hopefully the right one will cross my path someday.
Yep, the single-coil sound. I've always preferred humbuckers, but I like single-coil mode on the ones that have it, like the L-1000 and the Stingray. I ought to try a real single-coil bass someday.
