G&L Club Part 2

I wish I could keep the trib too, but I need to sell it (see classifieds).

I did a little "initial impressions" rundown on www.bassesbyleo.com in a thread that compares the US and Trib models.

I can't definitively say the USA model is worth the premium over the Trib, but it is a better FEELING instrument if that makes any sense. I don't notice a huge tonal difference.

It's a G&L L-2500 Tribute with Seymour Duncan Basslines Pre-amp

Bass/Treble stacked pot, Mid pot, and Volume pot (with push/pull Slap contour). Active/passive 3-way switch currently disabled.

I have a Tribute L-2000 with USA tuners on it and a Tribute L-2500 with Tribute tuners. The difference is largely cosmetic as they both function as they should,

Tribute - chrome plated die cast bodies, posts probably the same, they are certainly non-magnetic,
USA - Chrome plated, pressed steel bodies, aluminium posts..
One day when I am bored I might take one of each off and weigh them to see what the difference is.

The fretwork on the USA models must be superb as I cannot fault it on my Tributes.

I think the bridge is brass on the USA and die cast zinc alloy on the Tributes but mine certainly don't lack sustain.

I am still GASsing after a USA L-2500 though!

I have a bag missing those, and I actually use that feature.

Yes, the fretwork on the USA models is superb. All US models are PLEKed at the factory and the frets even look different. They feel GREAT. The neck on the US versions is what separates the Tribs from the US. The neck feels more comfortable to play to me. I find it easier to play. I can't quantify it, but it's there.

I've been looking into a L2000 now. I guess you could say I've now got a G&L bug..... :)

Question about neck pocket build/assembly differences between Legacy and American. Please excuse me if this was covered somewhere else here on TB or GuitarsByLeo....

Are they assembled the same now where they cut each neck to fit into each bass with tightness?

Dialing in a bit of research and at this point will probably go used on the L2000.

Well not my first G&L but I just picked up this L-2000 Tribute lately so add me to the club. I think this is around a 2005 model. Cleaned it up and strung it with a fresh set of flats. Neck needed just a bit of adjusting and after that she was sounding and feeling good. I will put it in the mix with our band later this week. Should be nice!

Well, so they say that everything happens for a reason right? If you scroll up a little bit on page 40 you'll see a picture of the bass that I was going to purchase. I was a little hesitant as this wasn't really what I wanted. Thankfully, that deal fell through, and instead I was able to come away with a ridiculous deal. For the same price as the L-2500 Tribute I was going to get, I managed to get a USA L-2000 (which is what I really wanted anyway) with an alder body and a beautiful cherryburst finish.

Can life get any better? I submit that, right now, it cannot.

Now I just have to wait to get it. Pictures incoming. It's on its way though...

This is a stock image. The one I'm getting doesn't look as harsh in the color transitions, it's a little gentler I think. It's pure alder body, not alder with ash veneer (which I prefer). but basically it looks like this.

Nice! How does it sound with the flats? I've been thinking about trying a set of Rotosound flats on my G&L.
