yeah, i think the microtilt is high because the upper register (around 13th-14th fret up) kinda buzzes/frets out. the frets didnt look like they were abused and have a good bit of life left in'em. it's on sale at GC w/case for $700. i didn't see what kinda case it was because it was in the back.

Did you look at the relief? While the microtilt can cause that it can also be as simple as having too much relief. Too much bow in the neck will cause buzzing above the 12th fret only (just as too little, or back bow, can cause buzzing below the 5th fret). It is easy to check. If the relief looks normal then you can suspect the microtilt. But if the relief is too much then it might be as simple as tightening the truss rod.

when i picked it up and was checking it out, i sighted down the neck and the relief looked normal to me.

yeah, it's got the 30-day warranty on it. are you saying to take it to a luthier for potential fret leveling or adjusting the microtilt/truss-rod?

looks like i might finally get myself a g&l. i've been dreaming of owning an L-1000 for a while now, but have never had any luck. i also forgot to mention that i'm a lefty, and finding a left L-1000 is quite difficult.

i'm thinkin i'll put some DR Hibeams on it, because thats what i've got on my fenders. but i've heard that stainless steel strings make g&ls too aggresive.

Old broken in Dean Markley Blue Steels seem to do ok, and the same for old Low Riders. But I'm thinking of switching to flats on both G&Ls. Or at least on the L2000.

If you like the feel of High-Beams you should try Sunbeams. They are round-core just like the High-Beams but are nickel.

not a fan of flats. the low riders seem like the way to go (for me at least)

I have nickel lowriders on my 1984 L-1000 (Ash/ebony) (as per Chef's suggestion - thanks again!). Not nearly as aggressive or zingy as stainless steel.

It's always interesting to hear from someone who's played a Trib and taken the plunge for a USA. I'm thinking about doing the same.
