All I can say is WOW! and I haven't even put a battery in it yet to play active! Thanks to all who help me get this mod. Funny thing is the G&L dealer Ideal with didn't even know about this mod or that he could order it at no extra charge.
Chef, do you know, can the k mod be ordered on Triby's?

I am not Chef but I can answer that any way and the answer is NO.

Sorry if this has already been addressed but does anyone have a link to a page that expains in detail what K wiring is along with illustration? I'm pretty interested in getting more out of my ASAT bass.

And say, Duke1, how much did your mod cost? How long did it take?

Not Duke1, but the cost of the mod is mostly in replacing the series/parallel switch with a three-way switch. The switch is not cheap as I recall (about $20 or $25) but the rest is just a bunch of rewiring of the switch.

I saw the wiring diagram posted on TB not too long ago in one of the G&L threads but I don't have the precise link. That's about all I know. It's how I put the mod on my Tribby.

This has been discussed before I think. The actual K wiring is done at the G&L factory with special pickups; they come with an extra wire which is used to reduce noice in single-coil mode.

I have done the DPB single-coil mod to my L-2500, using the inner coils. I'm very happy with it.

Also, the switch was 25 the rest was labor and tax. the tech said he had 1hr of labor, because I had him clean the pots, and replace the op amp, and place a dioid inline to protect the op amp. He said the the pictures and instructions I sent him had the tone stack disabled in single coil mode, so I had it wired so I can use the tone stack all the time.

Great info, guys. Thanks! I've been playing my ASAT mostly in passive mode for over 12 years now. However I always thought I could get more out of her with a little tweaking. I tend to get too much buzz when I'm in active mode and the treble boost is out of the question. Maybe its time to visit a tech. Pots could use some cleaning too.

Thanks for these links. I've seen the Basses by Leo before but couldn't remember where. But the DavePlaysBass is a new one on me. I need to sit down and really check this out. Very helpful. Thanks!

It is a lat 80's-early 90's SB-2. I'm going to throw some flats on it . I still need a hard case. Anybody got one?

Well, after reading all of the posts here, I am taking my 2500 back to the dealer and have a change made. I'm going to havehim wire it so I can have both single coil modes with paralle in the middle! I was so excited to get single coil i did not read all the linksthat were posted, Oh well its just a little less money my 4 kids will have to fight over LMAO!

Call one of the dealers such as Rocket Music or Guitar Man and they should be able to give you a good estimate.

I priced out a custom L2500, Cherryburst over flamed maple with birdseye board and matching headstock and it came in a a tad over $1900.
