FWIW, I thought my L-2000 E fretless (conversion) that I use as my "meditation bass" at work was going to be "all switches toward the bridge" for me but I took it home and plugged it in a proper amp with enough cabinetage, and wow. I must say, the active side, and the neck MFD really grind. I think I could play anything I play with my Tele basses and get about the same earth-shaking fundamental. The only trouble is that I need to stretch my left hand more to reach since the fretless needs to be played exactly on the fret line. But, that's in fact just great for practicing scales. This bass is growing on me big time.

Actually, fretless should move your fretting hand closer to the body.
With a fretted bass, you have to play behind the fret; further away.
Fretless, you play where the fret should be; closer...

What I meant is I have small hands. Take the C scale from A-string on 3rd fret up for instance. On a fretted bass I feel I don't need to be quite as precise and can do a quick run up and down. With the fretless, if I want to stay in tune, doing a quick run will stretch my pinky-to-index distance.

Can I join?

A 2005 Tribby L-2500 recently pick up from the local CL. Far and away the nicest "cheap import" I've ever played.

I just got my 93 L2K back from storage. It is under the influence of ski-jump in the neck. I measured the action best I could and got a 1/8th inch spacing at the first fret and just under a full 1/4 at the 16th fret. Not terrible by any means, but I would like to elicit the help of the Best and Brightest here at Talkbass.

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey everyone,I think I might have a problem with my L-2000. I think I might have a grounding issue with the pickups.I noticed this today when I was playing,I was getting what I would best describe as a 60 cycle hum.It didn't matter what I did as far as turning my knobs or flicking my switches.It was still there.Being this is an active bass of course,with duel coil pickups and not single coils I couldn't understand this.I know when not touched it should be dead quiet but it is kind of noisy.I touched both pickups with my fingers and it seemed to be a bit louder.Let me lastly explain,I am playing through a crappy Warwick practice amp right now,so I don't know if that is the problem or not.Any help from my G&L brothers and sisters would be most helpful. Thanks in advance. Joe:confused:

Great News
I got tthe call yesterday, My 2500 is ready to go, Pick her up today.
Pots cleaned, upgraded active chip, and the K mod to the pickups. I'm taking 1/2day vacation so I can be at the store at noon when they open. Can't wait to get it home and crank it up!!!!!!

Unfortunately my photo skills suck in any and all ways, please excuse the quality. The last one is supposed to show the scalloping I made on the L25K, I also removed the finishing from the rest of the neck. I just love the feel of unfinished maple and it plays like a dream.
