The above "facts" were later corroborated several times in that thread.
I may just have to sell it...or maybe just give it away because the Basswood Tribute is apparently a POS.

All this time, I (and everyone else who has ever played it) thought it was killer, only to be informed by the TalkBass Wood Police that it actually sucks..and has no snap.

Personally I think ash sounds like ****. It is all a matter of opinion. Basswood tone wise sounds very similar to Alder . Fender Japan used basswood quite a bit on their solid color guitars. The tonal characteristics are similar to alder, but the grain apperance is pretty plain and sometimes ugly, hence the reason it is primarily used on solid color bodies. Screw everyone elses opionions the only one that matters is your own!

Looks like I'm probably going to be a new member of the G&L family.

Now I just need to figure out what I can get rid of to make some room. That's going to be a tough decision. Something has got to go, a few would be much better.

That would be nice! I've got more basses than I have room for, same with amps, guitars, effects, recording gear, etc. I'll probably get rid of what I'm not currently using.

I have a hard time letting go of the basses, as they all serve a different purpose but they take up a lot of room and are the bigger ticket items. I do have a Stingray that I said I'd never sell, but if this thing is close enough in terms of tone i just may do it.

I did exactly that. Not only were they close enough in tone for me, the L2K can do far, far more tones than the Stingray I had. Case closed.

Yeah, the one area that was easily in favor of the 'Ray was playability. The L2K I got had some setup issues, which took me a while to get adjusted. Both my Stingray and Sterling felt and played fantastically, but they just could not keep up tonally. Tone won.

Don't let this fool you, though. I bought a fretless L2K here a few years back and the neck is like playing a Brazilian supermodel. Thin, tan, and so so smooth...

Nope, but it's pretty unlikely that I'll be added basses without subtracting them as well.
I suppose if I miss it that much down to road I can always hunt one down again. I'm thinking I won't, so it's probably a non issue.

I still haven't heard back from the guy either, so I don't even know what's happening right now. Hopefully it doesn't fall through, but ka will decide. I was planning on getting a P bass, then this thing came up. The P has been on the want list for a while now, but I feel like my MIM P is pretty decent considering the electronics, tuners, and bridge have been upgraded. I'd still rather get an MIA though...

There is no coil switching or passive mode on the new M-series. The coils are wired in series, but are a custom wind specifically for the M-series bass that has less wire, less output, but a cleaner, clearer sound. The series mode on an L-series bass can be hard to tame - the new pickups are meant to be a tamer version that puts the control onto the 3-band EQ.

I agree, but it's just so annoying to read it from "seemingly informed" folks (notice that I didn't use the word "intelligent") here on TalkBass. I mean, being new to bass, I joined TB to solicit other player's opinions on bass-related issues, not get caught up in ego wars.

I'm becoming convinced that only 10% of the folks on TB actually have a clue, and only 4% of them know how to articulate that clue into a reasonable statement (regardless of whether that statement is contradictory or not).

If you understood that, I guess you're part of the elite 4%.

Sorry for the rant.
